jasper whitlock hale
NICKNAME(S): if you're Alice, you know what they are. if you aren't, you don't get to use one.
GROUP: the Cullens
ABILITY: enhanced strength and speed. the ability to feel the emotions of the people around him. the ability to manipulate said emotions.
PERSONALITY:
Jasper basically comes off as being very cold and aloof to people who don't know him. You can say it's rude or shy or he's distracted or in pain or all four- the more likely option. As it is, he's not particularly social, especially compared to say Alice or Edward. While he definitely isn't shy, he typically keeps quiet and to himself unless he's around people that he's completely comfortable with (there aren't many). And even within his family and other of their kind, he's easily the most detached. The emotional climate sways how he's feeling at any given moment and how he's feeling reflects back into that in a way that can be beneficial or destructive (although unless it was necessary he'd never use his ability to make people feel bad). He speaks when he's spoken to, and aside from that, lets put it this way; if he has something to say, you best damn well listen cause it's important.
Jasper was raised well-mannered and well-educated gentleman. Being a soldier gave him discipline. Whether he was the youngest major in the Texas cavalry because of his charisma or he was charismatic because he was the youngest major in the Texas cavalry- Jasper always had a way with people. Both due to his life experiences and his ability he's very understanding of others emotions, offering empathy which is.. more real than most people can ever imagine, and telling them what they need to hear. He's not particularly patient or forgiving when it comes to himself, however. He doesn't necessarily feel he deserves the second chance he got. He has a harder time controlling himself than the rest of the Cullens, and he sees it as a huge weakness and liability which contributes to the 'i'm not even gonna look at other people' attitude which was mentioned before.
He hates violence- he just happens to be born of it. And he happens to be good at it. Though he's keen to emotions, Jasper tends to see things first and foremost from a logical, tactical viewpoint. It's definitely not hard for him to slip into a military mindset. And, though he would never say he has or wants any leadership traits, he is capable of taking charge when the situation requires. His ideas of right and wrong are very cut in stone and he has a hard time understanding that there might be different truths for different people as opposed to a universal one. If anything poses a threat to his family, he'll be the first one to say that it needs to go, and by any means necessary. Likewise, when it's possible, he does try to keep to peace. He's not quick to trust, and he can be harsh, but his intentions are in the right place.
RP SAMPLE:
On a good day, going to school was a headache. It didn't matter how many times he'd done it or how used to it he was; fifty-three minutes without a break in a room full of raging hormones and beating hearts wasn't what Jasper would call a good time. Of course, he would do it.. for Carlisle, for Alice.. even if he needed her assurance every morning. The longest he'd be away from any of them was fifty-three minutes. Normally he wouldn't mind the time to himself- then again it wasn't like he could slip into a private reprieve if he tried. It seemed like every year they managed to move the desks closer together.
Usually he could pass the time by doing the work. But on the days when they were solely expected to listen, it was much harder. Jasper liked history. He always had, even as a human. It was interesting, and entertaining in it's own right. (Northerners had a funny way of telling about the Civil War, that's all he was gonna say.) The class probably would have been more engaging had he not taken it (and it collage equivalent) so many times he was qualified to teach it himself. He leaned forward and rested his head on his hand the way most of the teenagers in the room were sitting. It had been Alice's idea.. they were supposed to be mimicking the humans. He saw it as a sign of laziness and disrespect.. But with boredom one of the more dominant emotions in the room, he didn't think that assumption was far from the truth.
"Mr Hale?" Had he been giving any indication to his mental traveling, his head would have snapped up. Instead, his eyes simply shifted their focus onto the teacher and his hands dropped back to his side. He didn't get called on more or less than any other student, but he'd missed the question. "Yes, sir?" It was unfortunate that he had to breathe to speak. "I was wondering if you'd be able to tell the class the date of the bombing on Pearl Harbor." "December 7th, 1941." He knew he was right, but he still waited for the affirmative, and once that was given, the eyes to leave him.
1941. He had still been with Maria then, and hardly kept up with current events. Sometimes he worried that she'd find him again (he knew she was capable of it. it was just a matter of whether or not she cared enough). If she did, he knew the encounter would be as..peaceful as their last. If they had to move from Forks, it would undoubtedly be his fault. No. He wasn't really nervous about her- not with everything else going on. The girl in front of him, on the other hand, was radiating sheer panic. Sometimes he wished that he was Edward, so he could know what caused the feelings he was experiencing. Other times, he thought he'd rather not know. He'd rather assume the worst and tell himself the bad feelings are all warranted (it made him less bitter). He couldn't imagine how certain trivial things could affect people so much as he knew they did... Things had been very different when he was growing up. No one in this room would survive a day in the 1800s.
