"Come on, Emmett, you know you want to tell me." Jasper taunted, smirking slightly (it was Emmett's fault for being so damn amused about his little secret). Alice had been planning something (undoubtedly over the top and outrageous) and got Emmett involved in it (which meant it was only going to get more ridiculous). They were Jasper's two favorite people, of course, but they tended to think of the fun before the potential damage (that was what they had him for) but he could hardly do his job because the two of them were remaining tight-lipped about it all (thought Emmett was close to cracking he knew it). Anyway, Alice had declared that she wanted to the boys out of the house and lets face it, you didn't say no to Alice. Certainly not Jasper. Between her pouting and the obnoxiously good mood radiating off of her and Emmett it was practically impossible for Jasper to realize what a bad idea this whole thing was going to turn out to be. So Emmett got him out of the house and since then they'd been walking around more or less aimlessly, having a ridiculous conversation. Nothing out of the ordinary. Okay..so it got out of the ordinary. There was a human... But wasn't that always the problem when it came to him. It was different when you saw them coming. You could look at them and see that they were people and think about the disappointment and anger and pity you'd experienced too many times already from the people you called family. You could hold your breath as they walked by, with only your clenched fist and pained expression giving any indication of what you were thinking. If that didn't work you could bolt out of the room, one of a million ready-to-use excuses at your disposal because you couldn't just come out and say it every time despite the fact that they all knew. Those were the good alternatives. When you saw it coming. Jasper had not seen it coming. The girl's scent blew at him at the wrong moment. She was too close and he was too relaxed, his guard too far down (something he should have never allowed to happen. he knew it would only lead to bad things). Jasper froze in place, but the girl bumped into him, and the contact was too much. He was gone. She was dead before she could scream, but not before he could be hit with the overwhelming wave of fear that may have brought him back to his senses were there not fresh blood in his grasp. He drank from her fervently though not for as long as he'd have liked. Emmett pulled him back and Jasper snarled, fighting to get out of his grasp. It was his and he needed it. Eventually he came to enough to realize that it was Emmett though that wasn't enough to calm him completely- not when the body was still so close and dammit he wanted it.

Well, it started off as a pretty good day. Emmett was excited, and yea, he was making it obvious. Come on, Emmett, you know you want to tell me. Emmett laughed. ”Yea, I know I do. Now stop making it harder.” Jasper knew that Emmett wasn’t good with keeping these kinds of secrets. ”Jasper Hale, you’re slipping. You’re supposed to be the mature one. You’re being highly manipulative,” he said with a smirk. Jasper knew he was ready to caving but if he did, Alice would kill him. He needed to stay strong. They had just been walking around and honestly it hadn’t been very eventful but Emmett could do that with Jasper and enjoy it. If they were with Edward he’d have exploded by now. He should have known, however, that they needed to be careful in such crowded areas. Jasper was doing very well, but his past wasn’t helping him out very much and the guy still had a way to go. Emmett wasn’t fast enough to stop him. He’d been looking around for another place to go while Jasper silently took a victim. The moment he noticed, Emmett was over on Jasper, using the full brunt of strength to get him off. Emmett was stronger than Jasper, but Jasper was still very strong, especially in a frenzy. ”Jasper! It’s me.” He knew he had to get him away so he quickly put the girl’s body far into an alley and grabbed Jasper, running them away from people and stopping when he felt that they were isolated in trees. Emmett wasn’t exactly calm right now, and he knew it wasn’t helping Jasper so he tried to calm himself down, but fooling his brother in that sense was almost impossible. ”Jasper…” He kept the guy in a headlock until the struggling subsided.

However he was pretty sure it had something to do with Alice finding out (and Alice would find out) and getting back at him. "I could make it even harder." he smirked. Jasper didn't misuse his powers.. but threatening to do it to Emmett for amusing purposes… yeah, that happened every once in a while. "Jasper Hale, you're slipping. You're supposed to be the mature one. You're being highly manipulative." "Manipulation can be a mature trait. It requires skill development" Yeah, like I said before, they were having a pretty ridiculous conversation before shit hit the fan.. Because this is a Phips/Tilly thread and shit always needs to hit the fan. Jasper was doing everything in his power to fight back when Emmett pulled him away however the second the guy spoke Jasper became somewhat more lucid. He was still trying to break free but he was also making a conscious effort not to do anything to injure Emmett. I mean, lets get this straight here, if Jasper wanted to win this.. he could. Emmett was stronger but he was a better fighter and right now he was very, very dangerous. He didn't want that though.. at least not completely. Part of him was extremely grateful to be led away from the scene. They stopped somewhere in the forest and Jasper took deep breaths like he actually needed them, trying to flood his senses with anything that wasn't blood. The thirst was far from gone but the full weight of what had happened came crashing down and emotional shielding.. yeeeah not working right now.. so everyone within five miles probably hated themselves for no apparent reason. The lack of calmness coming from Emmett wasn't much in comparison, but it still served as fuel from the fire. As many times as this had happened, he never handled it better. He sunk down submissively, no longer struggling, though still shaking every once in a while. "Emmett..I'm…" Sorry? Yeah, well he hadn't been while he was ripping the girl's throat out. Okay? That had a pretty self-evident answer. No-longer-susceptable-to-killing-the-first-human-I-see-so-you-can-let-go-of-me-now? More along the lines of what he was going for, though Jasper wasn't sure how true it was.

I could make it even harder. This would happen the one time Jasper was in an awesome mood. The guy was actually having fun doing nothing. It was like a once-in-a-lifetime situation and it had to be ruined by shit. ”You could,” he said with a smirk. ”But your conscience won’t allow it.” Emmett knew that it was in Jasper’s power to make it a lot harder for him, but he wasn’t cracking. He had his own reasons. ”Besides, even if it did, your girlfriend wouldn’t.” Alice was the biggest intimidation factor here. She took these things pretty seriously. And Jasper could argue as much as he wanted about how manipulating Emmett was mature but f he did it Emmett would use it against him as much as humanly possible. Except, after what had just happened Emmett wasn’t going to be using anything against the guy for a while. Jasper wasn’t Jasper when he was feeding—when he was killing. Seeing him like that made Emmett pretty curious about how he must have been before he met Alice, but this wasn’t a good time for questions. Emmett was actually pretty thankful that Jasper couldn’t read his mind because he wouldn’t be liking it if he could. Getting Jasper away wasn’t easy, but he managed it. For the record, Emmett did realize that Jasper must have been fighting it because yes, if he wanted to get away from Emmett, he had the capability. Soon after they got away, Jasper calmed down and Emmett let him go, though prepared to grab him again if he needed to. Emmett...I’m… ”not worrying about anything until you calm down? Good.” He knew Jasper would be beating himself up for it but he didn’t have to do it while he was still freaking out over it. Emmett patted his back and started calming down himself after being pretty confident that he wasn’t going to have to restrain Jasper again. This was something he needed to put a lot of effort into and though he had a good reason to be a little upset, Emmett was pretty sure part of his inability to get really calm was because of Jasper. ”Dude, you’re freaking me out…literally.” Obviously he wasn’t actually condescending him for it but if he had a little control over his own mood he could be of more benefit to Jasper.

Alice on the other hand.. she very likely would not, and even though she wouldn't be really upset at them, Jasper still wasn't willing do it and Emmett knew it. If Emmett caved without his coaxing.. that Jasper wouldn't feel guilty about. And it looked like he didn't have to which was good because Jasper was going to have enough to feel guilty about in like two seconds. Emmett let him go but Jasper stayed close, more for his own assurance than Emmett's though he did want him to know he wasn't going to run. "not worrying about anything until you calm down? Good." Emmett always knew what to say. It was almost ridiculous. Then again Jasper also found to ridiculous how there wasn't a trace of anger or fear or anything in his voice and he just sounded like Emmett always did no matter what he was talking about. "I killed someone." He admitted as if that was something they both didn't already know. None the less if there was ever a time worrying was appropriate this seemed like it. Jasper lowered his head and ran his hands through his hair (apparently that just a universally bad sign for phips's characters). "Dude, you're freaking me out.. literally." It took him a few seconds to realize what Emmett was talking about. Jasper rarely allowed himself to loose composure (for whatever reason Emmett always happened to be there when it happened) but when he did it was a task to get it together. He could hardly figure out which emotions were Emmett's and which were his he was projecting so strongly. "Sorry," he said quietly, focusing on controlling his own emotions. He couldn't stop it but he softened the effects on Emmett considerably, meeting his brother's eyes for the first time to look for confirmation.

I think it could make one exception. Emmett smirked. The next time Jasper was being all ‘no Emmett we need to do the right thing’ he was going to hear about this. Again, however, that would have to wait because that wasn’t what Jasper needed right now. For the record, there was fear in Emmett’s psyche but he was pretty good at keeping it separate from his tone. But of course he knew what to say. He knew Jasper…and he knew him very well at that. I killed someone. Emmett frowned a little, knowing that this was going to make Jasper upset for a while. It wasn’t something he was going to quickly get over. ”You made a mistake, Jasper.” It sounded horrible on its own, but when it came down to it Jasper was a vampire and a lot of strength was required of him not to kill. Everyone made mistakes—he was entitled to it every now and then. ”I’ve done it. We all have.” Jasper ran his fingers through his hair…which was enough of an indication that he was upset for even Emmett to pick up on…not having the power to sense it without picking up on clues. Sorry, ”It’s okay, really.” He said reassuringly as he met Jasper’s glance. Suddenly, Emmett did feel considerably better though his own innate fear remained present. ”Better,” he said with a small grin. He didn’t want Jasper to be guilty…about anything. He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly before dropping a bombshell. ”We… can’t leave her there, man.” It just wasn’t right. They needed to make sure the body wasn’t found screaming ‘it was a vampire’. ”Take all the time you need,” he said sincerely, ”but when you think you can, we need to go back. I do, anyway. I’m not making you do anything.”

"You made a mistake, Jasper." "Ending someone's life is more than a mistake." Yanno, it's kind of more along the lines of catastrophic disaster.. to put it lightly. Jasper knew better than anyone that he hadn't done it deliberately and obviously felt awful about it.. but that didn't change the fact that a girl was dead now. She had been young, terrified. She probably had a family and friends. She probably had things she wanted to do in life. Everyone was always saying to remember that they were people. Until something like this happened and all of a sudden it was a 'mistake'. They couldn't have double standards just because he screwed up. He wasn't an idiot. "I've done it. We all have." Okay, you know the look Tilly, no explanation needed. Jasper believed him, but the fact that he'd never seen it for himself meant that it hadn't happened in a very long time. No one struggled this long and that really didn't do much to make him feel more confident. He sat down on a rock, avoiding eye contact as Emmett's emotions became more defined. "We.. can't leave here there, man." Jasper knew he was right, though he didn't like the implications. (Lets be real Emmett would be lucky if he could get him out of the house in the next year.) Emmett of course said that he didn't have to go but Jasper shook his head. "I should go too. It's not your mess to clean up. Just.. not yet." He knew it didn't matter when they went- it wasn't going to get any better- but right now there was no way it was going to happen.
