”Jacki they’re gone let’s go!” Their parents had decided to leave the house for a bit as they’d done before because at that point they trusted Tala with Jacki (it wasn’t the smartest decision but they’d done it before and the house had remained in tact so they’d continue to do it especially because they well Jacki especially were a handful to bring out in pubic). They didn’t exactly like the two running around in the woods alone but they’d lived there long enough to know their way around and they couldn’t just be dragons and shit inside a house because that was highly unrealistic. Anyway Tala grabbed a wand (it was a stick but it was his stick and he believed it had magical powers) and a small blanket he could wear as a cloak from his room and ran down to the door to wait for his sister. Once she showed up he led the way, running behind the house down trails and then breaking off the marked paths once they were a little ways away. ”I wanna be a dragon! See? Wooooosh!” He started running around and for a ten year old kid he looked a lot like a dragon. ”I wish I could fly—or drive a car…that’d be cool too,” he stated because he was obviously in deep thought. ”Do you think Mom and dad would let us get a cat?” Tala liked cats. He thought they were cool and he wanted one so he could go be adventurous in the woods with a sidekick that would follow him around. The kid pulled himself onto a branch in a tree and hung himself upside down from his knees as he spoke to his sister. ”Okay, what are the rules this time? And you can’t just make them up as you go, JT. That’s cheating!”

”Jacki they’re gone let’s go!” ”I’m comiiing!” she called, digging around in a toy box in her room and throwing things everywhere. ”Do you have my sword?!” Only a few seconds after saying that she found it. She pulled it out and fixed the handle (it was make of cardboard so it needed to be put back together sometimes like every few minutes). ”Never mind- I found it!” She started swinging it around the room and mock fighting stuffed animals (she wouldn’t actually touch any of them because like Tala’s stick wand she believed that her sword was very real and very sharp and she would never intentionally wound one of her beloved toys) ”Oh, I’m coming!” she called again, realizing that she’d gotten distracted. She grabbed a hat and ran down the stairs, practically jumping the last four and landing next to Tala with a ”BOO!” They left the house and ran into the back woods, stopping once they were thoroughly surrounded by trees. ”I wanna be a dragon! See? Wooooosh!” Jacki clapped as her brother flew around in circles. ”Okay! Are you going to be a good dragon or a bad dragon?” Because it mattered for the stories accuracy and all that other important stuff.
”I wish I could fly- or drive a car.. that’d be cool too.” ”I wish I had a flying car..” Jacki mused, ”or a lollipop.” Yanno, either one, because they were both equally valued and all. And so was a cat! Or a dog. Because dogs were cool too. And birds. And pigs. And fish. Anyway, cats. Tala, yeah. ”I don’t know.. Maybe we could find a cat! If we find it they have to let us keep it, right? We could take it on adventures with us!” well now she wanted a cat. Good going Tala. Just kidding this person isn’t Tala I don’t know who he is Jacki climbed up the tree after him and sat on the same branch he was on because that was smart and all and then Tala started talking about rules and cheating which was definitely not something Jacki ever did. ”But TeeeeJaaayyyy, rules are boooring! It’s not my fault I have more creative ideas than you!” Jacki happened to come up with very good solutions to problems they sometimes involved things like turning from a dragon to a knight or a horse and sometimes she like shoved leaves in her brother’s shirt or ran home without telling him but they all made sense in the context of the story. ”If you want rules so bad you make them up.”

Jacki found her sword which was good because they were going on adventures and swords were necessary for adventures. They weren’t always necessary but they were helpful if you didn’t have a wand or an ax or something. They were better than using nothing… or using like a lemon because a lemon would be a shitty weapon so it was a good thing Jacki got her sword and not a lemon. Lemons could be used as a weapon because the juice could blind people but then you’d have to like pause and ask the evil person to stop moving so you could squirt lemon juice into his eye and that was time consuming so swords were better. I found it! ”You can’t keep losing your sword Jacki it’s important!” They left the house and were totally ready to start the game except neither of them knew what they were doing. That wouldn’t have been so much of a problem if they had the same idea regarding what they wanted to do but Tala needed structure and rules to use as guidance and Jacki didn’t, nor did she want them but we’ll get to that later because first they have to have a ridiculous conversation that older Tala would be ignoring. ”Bad dragon, duh! Otherwise I wouldn’t get to burn people with fire! Good dragons don’t burn people!”
A flying car would be pretty cool but their dad wasn’t Arthur so they weren’t able to make normal objects into magical ones. I wish I had a flying car.. or a lollipop. ”You could put lollipops in the flying car… but how do we get one to fly? We could make birds pull it!” All they had to do was befriend like fifteen giant birds and tie them to a car…like it was the perfect idea. The lollipops were going to be a harder issue though because birds didn’t have lollipops. Anyway, if they found a cat it’d definitely be difficult fr their parents to say ‘no’ to them considering the two of them were….them. ”If they didn’t we could hide it in a closet! But we don’t have cat food…do you think cats eat gummy worms?” They had a lot of gummy worms in the house because Tala likes gummy worms so if cats could live on gummy worms they’d be able to sustain a cat. But TeeeeJaaayyyy, rules are booring! ”There have to be some rules! Otherwise we could just kill each other and then we’d both be dead and the game would be over!” Jeez, Jacki. Little sisters just didn’t understand things. If you want rules so bad you make them up. ”Okay! One… we can’t kill each other until the game’s over. Two… We can’t speak Elvish because then we won’t know what we’re saying and if a dragon that’s not me tries to eat you I won’t be able to warn you……That’s all I can think of.” He’d make them up as he went—he had that kind of authority.

”You can’t keep losing your sword Jacki its importaint!” ”Well maaaaaybe if the person with the wand learned to summon things we wouldn’t have this problem!” Duh. Pft. The whole thing was obviously Tala’s fault. Even at this young age Jacki knew that much. So they got to the forest and started arguing about the importance of rules (which, there obviously wasn’t any) and then came planning the game (which also really wasn’t going to happen they were just going to specify who was good and who was evil and start ‘destroying’ shit) ”Bad dragon, duh! Good dragons don’t burn people!” ”Good dragons burn bad people! Okay, no they don’t, they usually just blow fire in the air and scare them or something stupid like that ‘cuz they’re too nice and don’t believe in killing. But if you’re going to be a bad dragon I want to be a knight!” Because knights were cooler than dragons and this is obvious for obvious reasons which don’t need to be gone into because they’re obvious.
Knights were cooler than dragons but lollipops were cooler than everyone especially the giant rainbow swirly ones and Jacki was definitely fantasizing about one of those right now. ”You could put lollipops in the flying car… We could make birds pull it!” ”Tala you’re a genius!” Take note- you will never hear that again, ever. Tala will never have such a good, practical idea as how to integrate flying cars and lollipops- it won’t happen. Not to mention the birds thing, that was great too! Jacki would have said something like balloons but those could pop or run out of air or something so birds were obviously better. Anyway Tala had had his good idea for the day so his next one Jacki had a few problems with. ”We could hide it in a closet! But we don’t have cat food.. do you think cat’s eat gummy worms?” ”I dunno.. We should ask it!” because that was practical. Anyway, the gummy worms weren’t a big problem, but Jacki saw a lot of issues with the closet part of the plan.
”But closets are dark! What if it’s scared of the dark? Or it thinks your clothes smell bad? Or it can’t find the gummy worms? Or or or” suddenly her eyes widened as she got another idea. ”Tala! What if it stars meowing when Mom and Dad are in your room and they think a witch cast a spell on you and turned you into a cat? Then they’ll send you to a vetermagician to get turned back into a human but they wont be able to find out why you’re a cat because you’re not so they’ll mess up the antidote and kill you and then I’ll have to name the cat Tala and take it to school and I don’t think it’ll fit in your clothes.” she explained very quickly, clearly alarmed by the problem. After a minute she added, ”And I’ll miss you! That too!” Despite the fact that she forgot about that she would actually miss Tala very much if he was killed by the vetermagician. The whole thing was very traumatizing to think about.. for the whole five seconds that she thought about it. ”But if you get sent away I can follow you! I’ll bring my sword and help you break out and then you won’t get killed!”
Now that that crisis was over, it was time to get back to their game. Or.. planning their game. Rules. She groaned obnoxiously, refusing to admit that Tala made a good point about why killing each other might not be very beneficial to their game playing. ”Tala we should learn elvish! Then we could have a secret language that the dragons wont know! And Mom and Dad wont know it! And nobody will know it! Just us! And the elves.” Couldn’t forget about them, they did all the work after all. ”But fine, until we learn elvish no elvish in the game and no killing until it’s ove—wait what if there’s a time out? Killing should be okay during time outs.” Because those weren’t part of the game and it was obviously logical that if you could kill after the game you could kill during a time out. ”Ready?” she asked eagerly, and then without really waiting just continued ”SetOneTwoOnYourMarkGetSetHAHAYOUCANT CATCHME!” She ran off deeper into the trees.
