Garrett was one of those few people (vampires.. people..whatever) who really loved life. No regrets, longings, inner turmoil.. Garrett was content as a kid who'd just inherited a fully stocked candy shop with a life time guarantee (although, that kid would probably like die of heart disease by thirty but like excluding that he would be extremely happy and that's how Garrett was) Being a nomadic vampire was great because you had no obligations. No coven, no mate. Just a lot of time and a lot of world to do as you pleased in. Of course, in the last three hundred years Garrett had seen a lot of the world already.. some many times over. But as obsessed with the 'new' as humans were, it never got old.
So yes, that is what brought him to a beach in California in the middle of the night. Boredom, curiosity, and the ability to do whatever the fuck he wanted. He supposed part of him was hoping there'd be a straggling human for whatever reason because it had been a while since he fed, but he was also thinking about going for a swim because you didn't really realized how much you missed that until you spent a decade in the midwest. Walking down the rocky cliff that led to the shore Garrett quickly came to realize that there were no humans.. how ever something else did catch his interest. Garrett could be too curious for his own good at times. Obviously, because I'm mentioning it, this is one of those times. So the strangely isolated cave int he distance, was obviously there to be explored.
Though he could get there walking on the rocks his pants were considerably soaked by the time he did. It was dark, so noticing anything right away once he was inside was near impossible, but keeping a hand on the wall he walked towards the back of it. Rocks.. dirt.. nothing of interest really, until he caught sight of something colored behind a rock. He picked up a piece of cloth.. a shirt.. and turned it over. Who hid a shirt (and the rest of their clothes, he realized after looking back at the pile) in a cave.. at a beach.. in the middle of nowhere? He didn't have much time to ponder it because he picked up a scent and turned around, clothing still in his hand. There was a girl.. a vampire.. gold eyes, dressed only in a bikini. Well, that answered his earlier question. "Oh... um, sorry.. is this yours?" He waved his hand, showing off the clothing. Smirking he muttered to himself "Well, this is awkward."

With most of her time being spent in the ocean, it was only natural that Katie would wear some kind of a swimsuit. It would be horribly inconvenient to have salty, seawatery clothes all the time, even on land, wouldn't it? That's why she had found herself a nice cave (as nice as caves could be) on the seashore, one that was mostly hidden from prying humans, where she'd keep her clothes and other possessions. She had quite a collection by now- she never threw away old clothes unless there was something wrong with them, so she had plenty of outfits from all sorts of decades (though she usually only war the ones that wouldn't attract attention in the certain time period that she was in- that was why she had so many, because she would keep buying new clothes and swimsuits as fads changed.
At the moment, she was just coming back to the cave after a few days' swim out in the mid pacific, where she was hanging around with a particularly interesting species of shark. She was going back to her cave to write down all the things she'd learned on her little 'trip' of sorts. What she didn't expect to see when she returned was another person- a red-eyed vampire, to be exact. Katie smiled at him as he looked a bit awkward holding her shirt. He must have been curious to know why it was in the cave. "Oh, yeah! No, it's fine. I keep my stuff here because it stays dry while I'm away." she said, motioning to her soaked form, making it obvious where she had just come from. "I'm Katherine! Or Katie, if you prefer." she said cheerily, offering him her hand to shake. "It's not often I meet another vampire around this area. Are you just passing through?

Well, there were a few ways Garrett had pictured this one going and this sure wasn’t one of them. Seeing that the girl seemed pretty happy as opposed to – well, you know how girls can get when you walk in on them in minimal clothing, they were really very unpredictable - Garrett was immediately at ease, smiling back somewhat mischievously. She explained why she had left her clothes there and his expression turned curious. ”You swim often then?” he asked. It was obvious that that was where she’d been from the looks of her, but he couldn’t really imagine how much there was to do in the water that she could make it a regular thing. I mean.. it was water. But then again, Garrett wasn’t known for his attention span (well, being good very anyway), so he supposed he wasn’t much a judge.
”It’s Katherine,! Or Katie, if you prefer.” ”Garrett.” he nodded in response, shaking her hand. ”So, uh, this is some closet.” The smirk was back as he gestured around the cave. ”It’s not often I meet another vampire around this area. Are you just passing through?” ”I’m not surprised. Not much of a food source.” Seriously, I mean, Garrett had originally come here to feed. Of course, it was obvious from this vampire’s eyes that their diets consisted of very different substances. But what kinds of animals lived around the shore? There were none. So the area seemed pretty universally vampire-unwelcome. Which just made him more curious why she was there all by herself. ”You could say that.” he added, responding to her actual question. Garrett had been planning on moving on in the morning, but now he was thinking he just might linger a little bit. Depending on how his conversation with Katherine went. ”I never stay anywhere very long.”

This other vampire- Garrett, as he later introduced himself as- looked rather confused, or thoughtful at the very least. Huh. Not to say that wasn't common, she supposed, with the vampires she had met over the years. "You swim often then?" was his first question. Katie nodded. "Oh yeah- all the time! I pretty much live in the water. Sometimes I come up here to, um... eat. Or if I'm actually going out on land somewhere, then I need to change, but otherwise, yeah, I'm in the water." was she being too talkative? It wasn't her fault if she was. She didn't get the chance to talk to many people, or vampires, for that matter, as those were pretty much the only 'people' she ever associated with, for fear of making some kind of a mistake.
Garrett mentioned her 'closet'. "Yeah... I feel bad throwing anything out. I just keep collecting more and more clothes as trends change, I guess." It turned out he was just passing through, more or less, anyway. "Not much of a food source." "Oh, right. Yeah, I suppose so." she pondered, noting that Garrett had a different diet than herself, and so he probably didn't have any reason to be around this area. "For me, there is quite a selection, as I'm sure you'd imagine. Though I'm picky, so I guess that's not really the case. It'd probably be easier if I were less picky, but I feel guilty no matter what I eat, so...." it was true- even when the animal was dead or mostly so, she still felt bad for feeding off it. It made this whole vampire thing pretty difficult. If only she could work up the courage to live among humans again, and the strength to keep herself from feeding off them, she'd be so much better off. She would at least have a job then, and perhaps could just feed off raw meat from the grocery store, or something. Ah well.
"I never stay anywhere very long." explained Garrett. "Oh, a nomad? I'd consider myself one of those, in a way. But I always end up back here. I should probably think about setting up a few more caves around the world, maybe, so I can travel more." the last sentence was a bit more like thinking aloud than anything else. But speaking to this guy was pretty interesting, to say the least. It was nice to have someone other than a fish or sea mammal to talk to. Not that she didn't enjoy that, but they only had so much to say.
