You'll have a chance later. I'll be looking forward to it. "Can I get that in writing?" He smirked slightly, though he really just wanted to sleep more than anything and he wasn't excited about going back to the truck...even though they sort of had to. They got back and Nash went all crazy with taking stuff out, telling Matt to put valuable shit back in the truck. He didn't have much that he really cared for (it was a camping trip, not a five star hotel reservation) but he grabbed his phone and one of his smaller bags and tossed it in the truck. He then proceeded to lean on the side of the vehicle, shutting his eyes for a moment before his body sort of shifted over which woke him up. "What're you doing--setting the site on fire?" He saw Nash working with paper towel rolls and noticed that he was really fidgety so he walked over and helped him to unroll them even though he had no idea what Nash thought he was doing. The kid watched with a raised eyebrow as Nash set up an extremely flammable trap. " 'The hell..." he muttered, smirking slightly. Nash would know how to start forest fires. Matt could already tell that this was going to be a little risky and they'd need to be quick and careful not to get set on fire...which was awesome...but they had no other choice. He started 'making a mess' as Nash had told him, kicking sticks and dirt and stuff of his that'd catch over the path of shit Nash had set up. Nash got in the truck which was just a really good sign because apparently this was going to be pretty chaotic. He sort of stared into space until a lighter was being tossed at him. He watched where Nash tried to dig his foot into the ground and sat near there keeping the lighter tightly gripped in his hand. Let's hope it works. "Yea, by that you mean let's hope we don't get barbequed." He quickly realized that this wasn't the time for those comments because Nash wasn't himself and so he quickly corrected himself with a nod. "It's gonna work. Go--I'll be ready."

”What’re you doing—setting the site on fire?” ”Yup.” Nash probably sounded way to casual about the whole thing (go ahead, add fire starting to the list of bizarre talents Phips characters possess, right after lock picking and before car stealing) but he knew what he was doing.. and it was going to work.. because they didn’t really have another choice. Matt didn’t seem to think the plan was too crazy either (though.. yanno, maybe he would have if he wasn’t like three quarters asleep while Nash was explaining it). Either way, it was the only plan they had and Nash was making sure that it was as foolproof as possible. The only thing he was worried about (legit worry) was how big this was going to get and how fast it was going to happen. They didn’t have the energy, time, or resources to contain it any better than they had and they didn’t have anything to put it out.. which meant that Matt was right- there was a chance they could get pretty badly burned. ”Yea, by that you mean let’s how we don’t get barbequed.” Thank you for the extreme vote of confidence Matt. ”It’s gonna work. Go—I’ll be ready.” He nodded. ”Stay as far back as you can. Make sure you’re not touching anything.” Before he left handed Matt his keys. ”Don’t wait. As soon as you light it run to the car. I’ll meet you there.”
And then he had to go attract a vampire. Which, really, wasn’t all that hard, considering the thing was looking for them. Nash didn’t go too far from the camp, just enough that it wasn’t visible. To assume the thing hadn’t already tracked them back there was stupid and so he wasn’t going to leave Matt alone to deal with it if it got to him first. He tried to remain calm while he searched the area, though it was evident either way that he was pretty pissed off and not all that patient. He knew when he’d gotten close because the thing’s power hit like bricks.. He was glad Matt had stayed at the site. ”I know you can hear me… I don’t think you’re stupid… So I guess that means you’re scared.” And yep, now it was running time. He led it back to the site, making up for not being as fast by being frankly, much smarter with the strategy thing. When he got close to their trap he nodded towards Matt in confirmation to light it. Then he reached the middle, stopped, turned around, shifted, and attacked the vampire. Okay, so, he hadn’t exactly told Matt about that part of the plan, but someone needed to make sure the thing didn’t get away. Which was exactly what he did. He held it and waited until the last possible second before letting it shake him and getting the hell out of there.

Yup Yanno, some people would consider starting a large fire to be a reasonable concern-- especially when it wasn't controlled. But if Nash was confident enough with the plan despite his current irrational mindset then Matt guessed that he could go along with it though as you already know, he wasn't thrilled. Later Nash would be getting teased about his arson knowledge but now was not the time. Make sure you're not touching anything. Matt was still pretty clueless but he was starting to wonder how this was going to work if both of them were far from the fire at all times. Don't wait. As soon as you light it run to the car. I'll meet you there. Okay, that helped Matt figure out what Nash was thinking. Matt narrowed his eyes at the older guy, fully prepared to argue if his theory was proven correct. "Don't wait? How long do you plan on taking?" For the record were he capable of focusing he'd have considered forcing Nash to risk the plan to get himself out of there....but he wasn't.
Nash ran out of there and Matt waited, investigating every sound he heard until, pretty quickly, he returned just barely outrunning a vampire. The crazy guy got close and nodded at Matt, signaling for him to light the trial they'd made. He shakily did so and got to his feet stumbling backwards so that he wasn't too close to the fire, though he stopped in his tracks seeing that Nash decided he was fire resistant (if Nash could be stupid, so could Matt). He saw that Nash was phased which did make him slightly relieved, but not enough so to completely satisfy him. "Nash," he called out with a bit of urgency before hesitantly getting back to the truck. Once Nash got out and got close enough to his truck Matt went off. "Are you okay? If you aren't disregard the following-- what the hell, man? Didn't think to fill me in on that?" He opened his mouth to keep going but he realized the energy starting to spread through him. He didn't sound tired anymore...he felt fine (or...like he'd downed a bunch of sugar because that was what he'd done not too long ago). "Okay, it worked..." he admitted stubbornly. "You're lucky. Just don't push your luck--I got permission to try to kill you earlier."

"Dont wait? How long do you plan on taking?" "Not long- the truck's just a better place to meet. Less chance of loosing each other and we need to get there anyway" For the record- all true points. And Nash really didnt plan on taking long.. Just long enough that he knew them finding each other in the fire wasnt going to be an option. He wasnt going to outright lie to Matt and tell him that it was only a precaution because that wasnt the case, but he wasnt going to tell Matt everything he was planning either. Matt was already really out of it and the ONLY thing he needed to worry about was starting the fire. Nash was going to take care of everything else... And if it wasnt obvious, he did. Nash got the vampire, got it in the trap, and made sure it burned. He heard Matt calling him, but he didnt go until he was sure theyd done it. By that point, despite the clear danger he was in, Nash wasnt nervous anymore. In fact, the whole thing had been pretty thrilling. Of course, that wasnt the word Matt would use to describe it. Matt.. did not seem nearly as pleased. Nash hardly caught up with him and already the disapproval was obvious. He didnt stop and phase back until they were at the truck, and didnt answer until he was done choking on smoke. Okay, so yeah, Matt wasnt happy. Hed seen t coming.
Im not quoting that whole thing he rambled out but theoretically here it is deal with it. "Im fine." he held up his hands defensively, knowing the words didnt mean much on their own. Yeah, there was some minor shit that came with the territory, but there really was nothing concerning even by the tilly definition (always feel like i need to specify that xD) "If I told you you wouldnt have done it." he answered simply. He knew Matt. "At the very least, you would have hesitated... It probably would have killed us. We definitely wouldnt have killed it." He wasnt insulting Matt or anything- Nash would have done the same exact things were the rolls reversed, and knowing that hed made a strategic decision not to tell Matt what he was doing. It had worked- so he didnt see what the problem was. "Youre lucky. Just dont push your luck-- I got permission to try to kill you earlier." "Try being the key word here," Nash emphasized with a smirk, shoving Matt playfully. "And it wasnt luck. Just because I didnt get your approval doesnt mean I didnt know what I was doing."

Nash could believe he was being clever all he wanted but Matt was still very skeptical, though he wasn’t in any position to say anything about it. They needed to do something. So Nash got the vampire in the fire and Matt waited for him to come back before ranting but he didn’t waste a second—he was off the second Nash could hear him. Nash phased back and was like coughing which didn’t help his case at all. ”You sure you’re okay?” he asked, taking Nash’s arm from the air as he had held them up and turning it over looking for burn scars or something. He’d grabbed the guy’s arm knowing he was going to need to see it for himself. Though it looked pretty clear and even if there had been a mark, it’d have been healing pretty quickly. If I had told you you wouldn’t have done it. ”Bullshit,” he said in denial, though he knew he wouldn’t have. He’d have hesitated—Nash knew him well. At the very least you would have hesitated…It probably would have killed us. ”It still could have killed you,” he responded stubbornly. ”You know how pissed I’d be at you if it did? You’d be afraid of me.” Matt didn’t find what Nash was saying to be insulting—he just clearly didn’t think it was justifying anything. Either way he was still really happy that they were back to normal and he didn’t feel like collapsing and Nash wasn’t a basket case. Matt smirked a little though he tried not to when he was shoved, crossing his arms to show that he wouldn’t budge. ”You didn’t have my approval—obviously you had no clue what you were doing.” He jumped in the back of the truck and grabbed another soda. ”I should’ve made you come back. If you weren’t taller than me (and stronger but Matt wasn’t giving that to him out loud) I wouldn’t be as convinced that you’d be able to kill me.” He was joking, though if there was ever a good time to use mind control…that would have been it.

”You sure you’re okay?” Nash nodded. ”Positive.” He knew Matt needed to see for himself so he let him grab his arm and look him over without giving him any trouble. Already he was feeling a lot better, nearly good as new, and completely awesome when you considered that he didn’t have to fight off irrational paranoia. Of course, even though Nash’s paranoia was gone- Matt’s was alive and well. In the younger guy’s defense, he had a good reason to be flipping out at him (even if it wasn’t really that good because, yanno, it had worked) ”It still could have killed you.” ”But it didn’t. And now it can’t.” Nash had no doubts that Matt would be even more furious at him had he died (not that it would have really been his problem, at that point) but the only way to assure lack of dying was to killthe thing that was trying to kill them. ”I knew what was coming- it didn’t.” he added. That didn’t mean the plan had been foolproof- but it had definitely put Nash in a pretty advantageous position. ”You sure you need another one of those?” Nash rasied an eyebrow when he went for another soda before taking one for himself. ”I’m pretty sure you’re about to hit Emma level.” Seriously, it was good to see him back to himself though. And despite the fact Mat had threatened to kill him like three times now, it was obvious he felt the same way. ”You didn’t have my approval- obviously you had no clue what you were doing.” ”You’re right, I forgot you were the all-knowing and experienced one. I’ll make sure to check with you next time I want to get us out of a shitty situation.” We have definitely had this conversation before. ”In my defense, I’m pretty sure you put me in charge until you woke up.” Which meant Matt really shouldn’t have been telling him what to do, powers or not. ”I should have made you come back. If you weren’t taller than me..” ”Oh, is that what it is?” As long as the fact he just committed mass vampire arson had nothing to do with how intimidating he was. Being serious again, Nash looked at him.”Hey, I’m sorry.” Fact of the matter was the intent hadn’t been pissing off Matt and he wouldn’t have done it if he didn’t absolutely have to.

Nash really did look fine so Matt couldn't really badger him over that for much longer but he was determined to be annoying about it for as long as he possibly could because Nash had still been ridiculous. "And if you'd messed up I'd be standing here awkwardly with your keys." He got that it was over and everything-- he was just kind of freaked out because although Nash was back to safety, Matt was still worrying about what might happen as if he wasn't. You sure you need another one of those? "I just spent a good hour feeling like death. I'm positive I need another one. You're the one that was a basket case. I'm surprised you aren't avoiding things that bring up your pulse." Matt wasn't mad at Nash, but he was going to keep pushing buttons. If Matt wanted a soda he was going to drink it. Being Emma was better than being a lifeless blob on the ground. Hyper or not, Nash admitted that Matt was all-knowing (okay so it wasn't exactly an admittance it was more like blatant sarcasm but whatever). "That's all I ask." Matt was beginning to lighten up at that point. He was still shaken up by what had happened but Nash had solved the problem. He wasn't going to give him shit for that. And Matt lightening up meant a lot of sarcasm was going to come in and replace the nagging. In my defense, I'm pretty sure you put me in charge until you woke up. Matt scoffed. "Dude, that was revoked when I had my first soda at camp. It wasn't an ongoing privilege." He laughed as Nash continued to be obnoxious about everything. Oh, is that what it is? "Okay... more or less." Then Nash apologized and by then Matt wasn't that upset anymore. He had known that Nash didn't do it because he felt like pissing Matt off. He did it because he knew he had a good chance of making it work and he was right. Matt wasn't as stubborn as Fred, so he understood. "It's cool...thanks for doing it..." he said sincerely before looking back at the site, seeing the mess that had been made. "...and for burning all my shit. If you destroyed all the food I will kill you." Priorities. Matt had priorities.

”And if you messed up I’d be standing here awkwardly with your keys.” ”If I messed up I’d hope you’d have better instincts than that.” Seriously, and Matt wondered why he wasn’t allowed within a certain distance of the fire- Nash knew him way too well. Obviously being a shifter came with its risks and you had to accept that those were there when you agreed to the deal. (Not that they actually HAD agreed to any deal, they’d more just accepted it). If it happened it happened. ”I’m surprised you aren’t avoiding things that bring up your pulse.” ”I am avoiding them- do you see me letting any vampires in here?” In comparison to that, Nash wasn’t all that worried about one soda, although he had his reservations. ”Besides, I don’t think we have any drinks without caffeine.” Knowing them, it didn’t seem very likely. And his mouth tasted like smoke, so he was drinking the soda. Matt was definitely button pushing, but Nash wasn’t going to freak out about it because… he was Nash and he didn’t freak out unless there would outside influence from dead things. ”Dude that was revoked when I had my first soda at camp. It wasn’t an ongoing privilege.” ”It should be. At least give me 'in any situation in which you’re incapable of making sound decisions, or yanno, listening to a ten word sentence without falling asleep'.” Nash was still joking too- although with that one, he had a point. Matt needed to expect Nash to do shit like that when it was obvious that he couldn’t. When Matt thanked him he nodded, more glad the guy wasn’t pissed at him than expecting to be praised. He’d done what anyone would have in that situation (okay.. probably not.. but anyone who.. I play.. yeah ) ”If you destroyed all the food I will kill you.” That might have been the first threat Nash took serious. He glanced back at the stuff and, then Matt, holding back a smirk ”I did say to put anything you didn’t want getting burned back in the car..” Okay, so- no food. ”You have any cash on you? We’re only a few hours from civilization..” Yep, now he was enjoying this a little too much.
