PERSONALITY:
The first thing to know about Kate is that she loves the ocean and marine life, and as the years go by, she loves to see scientists discover more and more about it. Her dream is to become a marine biologist and help them, using her powers to aid her without their knowledge, but she feels deterred by the fact that she is different from them. She worries that she won't be able to work around humans because she is a vampire, something that saddens her. And so, she spends her time around and in the ocean instead of on land, because that is where she feels most at home and comfortable.
HISTORY:
Kate grew up in a small town by the ocean in Florida. She was born in the summer of 1905, the oldest of five other children. She was always the "perfect" child, the one who never did anything wrong and who was always nice to those around her. Ever since she was able to, she'd walk down to the beach near her home and would spend ample time there, sometimes full days, just enjoying the atmosphere and playing in and around the water. Once she started to get a bit older and was in school, she began looking more analytically at her beach visits and would study the sea life she could find, taking notes on it. She'd spend time at the library and take out books on marine life as she could find them.
As she got older and her interests in the sea continued, Kate decided that after high school, she wanted to travel to the west and study more, perhaps getting a job as a researcher or scientist. Her parents supported her in her passions as a hobby, but asked her to wait a few years and stay at home a bit longer (they were worried about her aspirations and were hoping she'd settle down and get married near home instead). She stayed for four years, but finding no reason to stay any longer, left home and began her travel toward the west coast.
It was then, in 1927, at the age of twenty-two, that Kate was attacked. She was walking late at night from a bus station to an inn when the vampire found her, and the rest of that part of her story can be assumed. When she finally awoke as a vampire, her first thought was that she'd somehow survived the strange encounter. It wasn't long before she understood what had happened, and through her confusion, she fled back to the ocean. She has been, for the most part, living in the ocean ever since. She found after her 'death' that she was able to communicate with the marine life around her, and though she longed to be able to share her knowledge with the other humans, she feared she would not be able to keep control of herself while around them. She fed only off the blood of old sea mammals, killing them quickly before they knew what happened and then taking them ashore after nightfall to feed. Sometimes she happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time- in other words, she gets too close to a shore somewhere during the day, and swimmers are all through the ocean. Usually she's able to swim away without attacking, but if there is any hint of blood - or even worse, there's been some kind of shark attack- she will not be able to resist. She hates herself for it, and that's why she secludes herself in the ocean. The only non-animal interaction she has, for the most part, is with other vampires such as herself. Currently, Kate is residing in and around the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of America- the place she'd dreamt of before her untimely death.
RP SAMPLE:
Luna smiled as the girl- Ginny, she introduced herself as- spoke. "Thank you, I like it very much." she said when Ginny complimented it. "It's nice to meet you, Ginny Weasley. I like your name, too." she said happily. This girl was so friendly, it was very refreshing. Perhaps she would like to go nargle-hunting with her or something similar. That would be fun. Luna nodded a bit when Ginny asked if she lived around here and then mentioned not seeing her before or anyone her own age. It was much the same with Luna, ironically. This could only turn out well, she thought.
Perhaps this would be her first friend. How very exciting! This thought was only brightened when Ginny asked her if she wanted to play with her. "Oh yes, I'd like that." she said happily, accepting Ginny's hand and standing up, her other hand all full with flowers she had picked whilst sitting on the ground. She began thinking of all the games she liked to play- nargle hunting, find the wrackspurt, gnome circle, faerie ring... there were so many fun games! She wondered if Ginny liked to play them too.
As Ginny spoke again, very quickly throwing out questions at Luna, the blonde looked dreamily down at the flowers in her hand and began weaving them together into a sort of crown. She was listening of course, even if it didn't exactly look like it. Finally when Ginny stopped talking in order to take a breath- it was interesting to see how much she'd been able to say without the need to breathe- Luna proceeded to answer her questions in order as she finished making the crown, saying everything very simply and matter-of-factly.
"Yes, I believe so; eight; no; over there on the other side of the field; all my life." she said, pausing just a bit between each word. She wasn't sure she could do it all so breathlessly like Ginny had. She made sure to gesture in the direction of her home, too, when she spoke of it. She then paused for a few more seconds, and then returned two of the questions. "Are you eight as well? Do you have many siblings?" she supposed that Ginny did look about eight and that since she asked about siblings, she must have had at least one. Otherwise it wasn't a very common question for those who didn't have siblings, she thought. She didn't ask any other questions, or return them rather- there was no need. Ginny had already told her where she lived, and from the way she spoke, Luna was able to deduce that Ginny had lived there a long time too. By asking Luna if she was a witch, it was obvious that Ginny must be one unless she was a squib. It was fairly simple deduction, really, and it saved many words.
