Devon was apparently in charge of checking in on all the pack members. Keisha always saying she was too busy to deal with it. And what about Devon? She had things to do too. Like…shop, or read, or cook. Pete and Keisha would starve without her cooking skills. Silly, silly children. But no, none of that was important. What was important was checking in on everybody and making sure they were alright. Devon was relatively sure Tala and his sister was okay. Through the shifter mind thing Dev was sure that if anything was really wrong then she would know through that. However that did not satisfy their alpha. Of course the female shifter rarely listened to the alpha so the least she could do was work on some of her beta responsibilities. Keisha should have let Devon go when she had the chance. It would save the two the hassle of dealing with this nonsense. Of course the two became extremely close friends and were practically inseparable. Psychologists should really study their relationship because it was not the most conventional.
Pete even knew that their relationship was a bit odd. Then again nothing was truly normal when you were a supernatural being. Being a shifter caused problems to everybody’s life. There were the humans that didn’t know anything about them, the ones they had to lie to. Then there was the neighborhood pack, that Keisha made an unstable impression on, unlike Devon who managed to ‘befriend’ two members. Well befriend one member and be cordial/tolerate the other one. Then again there was that annoying female shifter in their pack. She must not be used to other girls around because boy, Devon really just wanted to grab her and drag her around a mall. Then again Devon was like that with every female she thought needed her help. She just thought she was being helpful if she volunteered her time to fashion victims.
The female shifter sped through the streets of Washington, pretty sure she was going to get pulled over any second. Not that she cared. Devon was a hundred year old shifter; she was perfectly happy breaking small rules like speed limits. They meant nothing to her. None of the mundane laws did. Unless it would cause harm to herself or someone else, Devon was planning on breaking all the rules. What else was there left to do anyways? After a hundred years you’ve seen it all and did it all. Dev slammed on her brakes when she saw the address of the White Residence. The female shifter sharply turned the wheel and pulled into the driveway. Thank god they didn’t live in Alaska like Payuk did. (Though he didn’t live there now). The female shifter didn’t need to shift or pack for a long trip to visit the Whites. And unlike Payuk, Devon could actually tolerate the others. She truly cared about all the pack members and would do anything for them. But some of them really got under her skin on occasion. Something Devon wasn’t really proud.
Devon’s black boots hit the pavement as she slid her sunglasses to the top of her head. The sun had been abnormally bright today. Which the girl loved, she loved the heat and would soak in the sun every second she could. The female shifter locked the door and made her way to the front door. Dev jingled the keys lightly in her hand as she searched for the doorbell. Once she spotted it, she ran once, twice, three times. Yea, that could get annoying but at least they now know who is at the door and that their guest wasn’t waiting. She pursed her lips and she adjusted her brown hair around her shoulders. For some reason Devon could not sit still today. She tapped her foot urgently as she suppressed the urge to ring the doorbell once more.

[/color] Tala liked to read. Reading brought him out of reality and away from stresses he worried about on a daily basis…mostly schoolwork (contrary to popular belief he doesn’t ENJOY doing the work, he just cares that it gets done in a timely and qualitative fashion) and Jacki. He liked really exciting books, ones filled with fantasy and fiction. He didn’t think his life was exciting so he got pleasure out of those stories. I mean, most people would consider being a shifter to be pretty exciting and not dull but Tala wasn’t most people and so his life bored him at times. Not because of the work he did—he was proud of that and didn’t mind putting the effort in because he believed that all his work always paid off (unless a certain annoying-ass little shit of a sister took his homework and scattered it across the house sending him on a frantic rampage she liked to consider a scavenger hunt). Anyway, so yea, Tala liked reading. He was often consumed in exciting fictional books and trying to shut everything else out. He appreciated that time he had without Jacki coming in to interrupt him with utter irrelevance every two seconds and so the doorbell was both unanticipated and undesirable.
Tala also wasn’t social. He didn’t make plans with people and people didn’t make plans with him and he was more than content with both of these realities. Therefore the fact that Jacki was not home and someone was at the door slightly confused him. He should have known it was Devon…but honestly he had no clue until he got up to look out his bedroom window, spotting her car in the driveway. He still didn’t know what she wanted with him but she was sort of in charge of him in a way and so he decided she was worth the trip downstairs to open the door. He did so, eyes diverted to her tapping foot once she was in view. ”Hi Devon,” he said, doing a pretty good job at sounding friendly. He couldn’t hide the confusion from his tone but it could have been worse. ”Uh, did I keep you waiting? Can I do something for you?” He backed out of the doorway as if to let her know she was welcome inside if she wanted to come in, though he really didn’t know what she wanted or what her plans were so it was really just Tala trying not to be socially awkward. Man, he didn’t get people.

When you are left alone on a doorstep with nothing to do the wait seems more like SIX MONTHS. But you know whatever. Dev was debating about letting it go or not. Really she was just there to see if Tala was good and okay. He was part of her pack and apparently she had an obligation to check up on her pack members every now and then. Being a beta was such hard work. But to be honest Devon would be more than happy to be the alpha as well. Boss someone else around to make errands and check up on people. Finally Devon heard someone stir inside. And while it would be nice to have Tala straight up answer the door, she wouldn’t mind seeing Jacki. Jacki was an interesting human being and entertained Devon on more than one occasion. If she could she would totally turn Jacki into a shifter. Honestly sometimes she wondered if the right sibling got the shifter gene. Not that Tala wasn’t cool. He was a nice guy but he wasn’t the typical shifter guy. He liked school and books and staying inside. While Devon didn’t mind occasional romance novels, she definitely enjoyed the outside, shopping, and socializing more.
Eventually the door opened and there, standing in front of her was Tala. “Hey Tala,” Devon greeted semi-sweetly as she pushed her designer sunglasses up onto her head. “Just a couple minutes, it wasn’t like I was standing there for six months.” Devon was clearly joking around with Tala. Even though if you want to get technical…it has been six months, Tilly. She was glad to see Tala was open to her entering the house. Something she was going to do anyways. The woman pulled rank over him, clearly. Even if she wasn’t his beta it was pretty obvious who had the more dominant personality. She walked into the home and glanced. It was actually the first time stepping inside the White Residence. It was very nice, cozy, and clean. Something Tala probably had to do. She threw her bag on the couch and ceremoniously sat down; crossing her legs ever so lady like. “Nope, just here to make sure everything is all good with my fellow pack member.” Dev looked around the room and then glanced at Tala. She took in his attire and made a quick judgment. “By the looks of it, you could use some company. Wouldn’t want your social skills to…deteriorate.” It really looked like the boy had no life. Like he stayed in his room all the time and just read. Of course this wasn’t something that she came to just because of his look. She knew that he was a nerd and somewhat of a hermit, or at least heard rumors about it.
