Yes, yes Sir. Thank you very much, he said as he turned to leave the classroom. He’d been so busy lately that he wasn’t getting all of his work done. That wasn’t a common occurrence for TJ so his professor granted him some extra time to finish the work. Even so, Tala wasn’t about to let that happen again. He was going to need to step it up and worry about his schoolwork more if he was going to be successful in life. Success was the major goal.. after all he’d otherwise end up living in a box on the side of the road which wouldn’t be so bad except Jacki would probably follow him and hog his box and he wasn’t going to survive that for very long so avoiding that lifestyle seemed like the best way to go.
He wanted to get to work as soon as possible so he could be confident about handing in the assignments on time. He knew he could get them done in one night—he just had to like.. not eat or sleep. It wasn’t going to be that big a deal and the next day he’d have it all out of the way. So that was his plan. Because work was more important than staying alive. Clearly we’re lacking in the common sense department. He drove home quickly, planning to get right to work. He pulled into the driveway and nearly tripped out of the car. He ran up to his bedroom and opened the door, only to find that his plans were going to be postponed, and that he was going to kill Jacki.
It was clear that Jacki had been in his room. He knew exactly where everything was supposed to be. You could move a book over two inches on a shelf and Tala would know it was touched. It was like a sixth sense of his. Shrugging the thought away for the moment, he walked to his small desk in search of a blue folder. When he couldn’t find it, he switched over into panic mode. Jacki! He looked around once more, throwing things all over the place in desperation. Jacki, that folder contains all of my life’s importance. What… did you do? It was taking every fiber of her being not to explode. Tala was pretty easy-going most of the time but there were some things that he couldn’t handle well.

It was really all Tala's fault for caring so much. Jacki knew that if she touched anything in his room he'd notice..and that's why she'd chosen to practice magic in there while he was at school. She'd decided that she was going to be sick today (she'd blamed that on her brother too) and so she'd had plenty of time to set up all her things all over the room and just generally wreck havoc before he even had time to argue. There'd been too much junk on his desk for her to use it (by junk, i mean pencils and paper and other stuff that obviously didn't belong on a desk) so she'd dumped most of it in his closet, but then she noticed The Blue Folder.
Yes, The Blue Folder, please note the caps, and the fact that Tala was very open about just how important that folder was. No, there was no porn in it... or a check for a million dollars..or secret papers from the FBI (she'd searched the thing a looong time ago), it was just boring schoolwork, but Tala cared a lot about boring school work, so much he was always shutting himself up in his room and ignoring her much better ideas for things they should do, and so it definitely had to go.
After making his ipod and ones of her favorite of his shirts disappear (and conveniently relocate themselves in her bedroom, in a drawer containing girly things that Tala wouldn't ever touch) she grabbed the folder and skipped out of the room in search of a good hiding place. Refrigerator..medicine cabinet.. under the mat.. Finally she decided to just take all the papers out, number them (yes, she wrote on his work, in purple ink.. it was in the corner!) , and hide them in different places. In other places she scattered about 'haha, this is fun, right?' type sticky notes, and, very happy with her work, returned to Tala's room, singing Cough Syrup because she was just in that brilliant a mood. She placed her 'magician hat' on top of her head and sat on her brother's bed, waiting for him to come home.
Come in the room he did, and walk right past her. See, he really did have problems with his priorities. Went for the folder, found it missing. Well, if she hadn't tore up his room enough, he was certainly doing a good job. Jacki! Well nooow she existed. She tried her hardest not to grin as he accused her of doing something. No point in denying it. "That folder contains homework." she corrected pointedly. She didn't even understand how it could mean so much to her brother, a bunch of papers with big words- there was so much more to life! She brightly added (with a point to her hat as it it wasn't obvious) "I was practicing magic!"

That girl could not be any more opposite of Tala if she tried. She was rambunctious, impatient, and all around insane. He had normal priorities—she didn’t. Of course, when he walked in he was completely focused on getting the work done. After all, it was kind of the most important thing in the world at the time. Of course, he wasn’t going to see Jacki there because quite frankly he didn’t have time for her right now. When she got bored she did whatever she had to in order to get TJ to entertain her and that often became a problem. It was just good for her health that he didn’t know what she’d done to his papers yet (not that he’d actually do anything to her, because he wouldn’t).
That folder contains homework. That’s what I said, Jacki, get off my bed. Seriously, the bed was for people who weren’t obnoxious to sit on. She hardly deserved that privilege. Sometimes he felt like he was dealing with a six-year-old. Glancing around the room to find the folder (even though that was an admittedly horrible idea since there was no way she’d make it that easy), he noticed his ipod was no longer in the dock he’d left it in. What else did you take?! He was probably overreacting a tiny bit but he really didn’t care because if you asked him that girl deserved an explosion in her room. The only thing stopping TJ from arranging that himself was that he knew for a fact over one third of the objects in that room belonged to him.
He could not believe it. I was practicing magic! What kind of excuse was that supposed to be? What is wrong with you? She could never just stick to something—she always had to try new obscure things and then he had to deal with her screw-ups (although he was pretty sure she’d meant for his stuff to “disappear”). What?! Why would you—can’t you just find something you’re actually good at and stick to it? After a few more seconds of searching the room, he looked at her with aggravation. Where’s the folder? If he didn’t get that folder back soon he was going to die. And for the record, we’re all very happy he had the control that he did because Paul would have phased by now.

Obviously all of Jacki's attention problems stemmed from the fact that her brother cared more about some stupid pieces of paper than spending time with her. It wa sa wonder she turned out such a wonderful human being, after all that neglect. Of course, the way she saw it, Tala was the one who had the massive social problems. Her? She was just trying to best to help him see the light. She deserved a halo and wings for the effort. Maybe she'd make herself a pair.. Tala had enough white fabric.
'That’s what I said, Jacki.' "Nooo," Yes, she had to draw out that word of emphasis. It was very important towards getting the point across. "You said it was important. There's a difference." They taught you the difference in like.. what..third grade? Those sounded like third grade words. And that explained why Tala didn't know them because he just decided that he didn't need third grade words when he had big college words-- but he should try writing a sentence without little words..yeah..didn't think it'd be so easy.
Anyway, Jacki completely ignored the whole 'get off my bed' thing, which he should have actually been very glad about, because this was probably the most harmless piece of furniture in the room she could sit on. 'What else did you take?!' "I didn't take anything." She pretended to be really affronted. She showed him both her hands and emptied both her pockets because there was obviously nowhere else in the world that she could hide anything of his and call it her own- definitely nowhere in the house.
"Okay, so, I did take that shirt with the birds and the guitars that you got for your birthday but you were never going to wear that because it's way too cool for you so I just saved it from a life of wasting away in your closet." And hopefully that would distract him from the ipod for a little bit. She knew it wouldn't distract him from the folder. But that was okay, because the folder was going to provide most of their entertainment. 'What is wrong with you?' Well now he was just being rude. "Nothing's wrong with me. I feel great. You though.." She shook her head and got up and put her hand on his forehead. "Tala, I think you got up on the wrong side of the bed today. Maybe you should lay down."
He liked her too much to kill her..and he was a passive person anyway. She really hadn't been expecting all the attitude. 'What?! Why would you—can’t you just find something you’re actually good at and stick to it?' "But I am good at magic! What have I tried that I wasn't good at? Just because I'm not a smarty-pants fun-killer like YOU-" She pouted like she was four and spent all day drawing him a picture just for him to tell her he didn't like it. She didn't actually care...like half that much..but the post needed an analogy so yeah. but it was still a little bit offensive.
She watched him tear through things in the room, trying to find the folder. He could have just asked her-- oh, there he went. Pretending to put a lot of thought into it (actually, the more she thought about it, the most she realized that she didn't remember exactly where she'd hidden every peice of paper.. Well, hopefully Tala was a good finder) "It's hiding!"

How could she not get through her head that homework and importance were the same thing?! She didn’t use her head—she didn’t think. They couldn’t have been related because it wasn’t possible for such opposite people to share DNA. You said it was important. There’s a difference. There most certainly is not. Jacki, I can’t lose that folder. I need it back. Now. He felt like he was talking to a five-year-old. The concept of homework being important just didn’t click with her, and yet he revolved around it. Trying to get her to understand that was like talking to a wall—a very loud, animate and obnoxious wall.
I didn’t take anything. Again—it was like he was speaking to her in Japanese. As she continued to show him her hands and pockets, he rolled his eyes. He had absolutely no idea where she obtained the impression that showing her emptied pockets was going to get TJ off her case. Forget it—I’ll find out myself. He walked toward the door with intentions of going to her room to search it, however he quickly stopped realizing that leaving her alone in his room again.. well it wasn’t going to happen. Turning back to her with frustration, he listened to her rambling.
Okay, so, I did take that shirt with the birds and the guitars that you got for your birthday.. Sure, now she was going to confess. Luckily for her (okay so it was probably more lucky for him), he didn’t care about the shirt. He cared about the papers that, at this rate, he didn’t expect to see again in one piece. I don’t care. Then she went on to mindlessly imply that she was a normal human being. If he’d had less control over his anger he’d be a pretty big wolf right now. Nothing’s wrong with me. I feel great. You though.. I’m fine! He rolled his eyes again (it was the epitome of the attitude he ever showed) as she felt his forehead. Could she take anything seriously? If you’re trying to change the subject, you’re doing a horrible job.
Words could not describe Tala’s disbelief with the fact that her excuse behind this whole thing was “magic”. If you’re so good at magic, bring my stuff back! He thought about her trying to do some weird magic trick again and quickly shook his head at her. Nevermind—please don’t. He wasn’t going to encourage her “magic” skills so that she could experiment with stuff in their house, start a fire, and blame it on the magic that didn’t exist. Just because I’m not a smarty-pants fun-killer like YOU— Yanno, that should have been offensive, but he wasn’t at all offended. He was almost amused, actually. Tala looked at his sister with a raised eyebrow. Well that was creative. That’s the best you can do? He’d had enough trying to get her to cooperate. It’s hiding! I don’t have time for this—I’m going to fail without that folder! More like he was going to have to redo all the work overnight and get an A- for minor typos.. but he still wasn’t going to be happy about it.

There is a difference; there isn't a difference. They two of them could go back and forth all day. (And at this rate, they probably would.) 'There most certainly is not.' Blah blah, whatever you say Tala. Jacki could have been a very obnoxious individual, taken out a dictionary (she was sure Tala had one laying around here somewhere) and shown her brother exactly how 'homework' and 'important' were not in any way related words. However, being the nice person she was, she didn't do that. No. Of course not. Instead she used the logic of experience to help him see reason. "Tala, nobody does homework every day!" She was practically saving him from himself.
'Jacki, I can’t lose that folder. I need it back. Now.' "It's here, it's in one piece. I promise." She really wasn't that bad of a person. She wouldn't have burned it or scribbled all over the work or anything like that. She was only trying to have fun- completely harmless fun that was making Tala very irrationally angry with her. 'Forget it—I’ll find out myself.' Do you reaaaally want to do that Tala? Really? Yeah, I didn't think so. Somehow, she managed to keep from bursting out laughing.
Taking the shirt had been diabolical. Like seriously, pure evil (like Plankton from Spongebob). I mean, Jacki liked the shirt way more than she liked Tala's papers. And at this rate he wasn't even going to remember the ipod. 'I don’t care.' SCORE. One point Creative-Genius-With-The-Magic-Hat. And it wasn't just a point. It was like.. a jump shot corner kick ninty yard touchdown. 'If you’re trying to change the subject, you’re doing a horrible job.' Really? Because she thought she was doing a pretty good job. Did he think she couldn't pout any better than that? Because she could. She just wasn't pulling out the big guns yet.
'If you’re so good at magic, bring my stuff back!' "Okay! Alaka-" It was just on the tip of her tongue. 'Nevermind- please don't.' "But Talaaaaaaa." Now she was pulling out the big guns. "Why don't you think i can do magic? maybe I'm a wizard! I mean, you're a wolf! If anyone would believe- there's no way you can say wizards don't exist. I'm a wizard Tala! You really should give me more credit!" And cue the singing of Do You Believe in Maaaagic. Because she was in fact ace when it came to subject changes.
At the next insult of her creativity Jacki made sure to look particularly kicked-puppy. Tala went on about... well, all Jacki was hearing was blah blah blah something about the folder so she went and wrapped her arms around him in a very 'i'm your little sister remember you don't want to kill me' way. "I'm sorry Tala I love you!" She laid her head on her shoulder, trying not to sound as amused as she was. "I'll help you find them! I'll give you hints and it won't take long and it'll be fun and we can start right now." Getting off of him, she smiled hopefully and grabbed his hand and ran out of the room. And the winner iiiiis, ladies and gentlemen: Jacki White!

It was obvious that Tala wasn’t going to get through to Jacki. They could sit there and argue about what was important in life for days but she wasn’t going to have the same opinion as him. Tala, nobody does homework every day! Most people do homework every day! Maybe not as much as he did, but people got work daily from school and he couldn’t imagine anyone just deciding not to do it (he clearly didn’t know Jacki well enough). That wasn’t even the point. Jacki liked to have fun, so she didn’t live on the same planet as her brother. It’s here, it’s in one piece. I promise. He didn’t really care if she promised. It wasn’t with him, and therefore was of no use to him. He needed to know where it was but with an exasperated sigh, he came to the conclusion that she wasn’t just going to tell him.
Jacki seemed to always be trying new things and messing things up but changing the subject was one thing she was pretty good at because it required being spontaneous and not making any sense. But Talaaaaaaa. Did she really expect him to believe that she had any magical ability? Me being a wolf has nothing to do with--- I’m a wizard Tala! You really should give me more credit! He slapped his forehead with his hand. And before he could even attempt to be practical with her, she started singing and trying to keep her on topic just seemed like a lost cause at that point. Jacki! Hey, ‘Wizard’, remember me? Hey. Looking for a folder here.
He had to hand it to her, Tala was being slightly mean but he had every right to be aggravated. It didn’t even matter how he acted because Jacki was ready to play the little sister card. She really needed to learn how to ask him to spend time with her like a normal person so they could both just skip the whole charade. I’m sorry Tala I love you! And now she was hugging him and the cuteness really should have gone away when she was like seven. He put his arms around her while rolling his eyes. Mhm. I’ll help you find them! And he really didn’t have a choice in the matter because she took his hand and pulled him out the door. He could have resisted her pulling but there was no point if he wanted to get anywhere with his problem. If she was going to help him, he had to play by her rules. Fine. I’m yours for the day, happy? Where do we start?

Poor, poor Tala. Sometime's Jacki really thought all that schoolwork went to his head and if he didn't stop soon the damage was going to be permanent. 'Most people do homework every day!' "Name five!" Jacki was pretty sure she could have said name two and been equally as satisfied with the results, but it was better than be safe than sorry in the event Tala actually did make a few friends in his life. Even if he said he did, Jacki wouldn't believe it until she saw them, because he'd never brought anyone home and he never had plans (she was pretty sure if she grabbed his phone and looked at the contacts there would be like five names). He could have been an imaginary friend, named like.. Ned or something, who wore a pocket protector and did math for fun and..and she needed to stop because she was having way too much fun with this mental imaging.
But really, what else was she supposed to have fun with? Tala wasn't fun. Tala didn't even think she could do magic. Of course, Jacki knew she couldn't do magic- well, wizard magic. Magician magic was completely different. But singing was something that she was good at. She could just be a singer. Or a singing magician. She'd never seen any of those before. okay, it was decided. 'Jacki! Hey, ‘Wizard’, remember me? Hey. Looking for a folder here.' She tilted her head. "I'm sorry, have we met?" Laughing, she shook her head. "You're not looking for anything. You're asking me to tell you where it is. And that, big brother, is not going to happen." Why, you may ask. Well, because Jacki happened to be an amazing human being with mad skills. What are those? We're getting there.
Three..two..'Mhm.' Jacki grinned victoriously when Tala hugged her back. She would always be the adorable one and her brother should really stop being surprised when she used it to her advantage. 'Fine. I’m yours for the day, happy?' "I am!" She dragged him down stairs the second he agreed and to the middle of the living room. 'Where do we start?' "In here." She let go of Tala's hand and waved him in a random direction. "There's at least two in here.. well, maybe two.. I know there's one..there could be three..." She really should have mapped this whole thing out. Oh, oh, she remembered! "Walk that way! No, not that one! You’re cold Tala!"

Tala couldn’t name five… but that was because he prioritized homework over socializing… not because other people like him didn’t exist. He opened his mouth to respond, but let it go because he wasn’t going to win that one. He needed to cooperate for her anyway. Otherwise, he wasn’t going to get what he wanted. I’m sorry, have we met? He did not have time for this. She told him flat out that she wasn’t going to tell him where it was, so that really sucked. Why not? I’ll even do something fun with you… that doesn’t risk breaking bones or setting things on fire. He’d rather just do something with her and get his folder back without any effort in looking for it… but her version of fun tended to be spontaneous and outside of Tala’s comfort zone.
I am! Well at least she was happy, because that’s all that ever mattered and Jacki’s happiness made the world revolve and all was well if she was happy. Tala was dragged down the stairs and into the living room where there may or may not have been multiple parts of Tala’s assignments lying around. I know there’s one… there could be three… You don’t remember?! He sighed exasperatingly, looking around the room. You’re cold, Tala! Jacki, tell me which way to go. He was starting to believe he wasn’t going to be able to find anything, even with Jacki’s help. Can’t you just show me? I’ll make you cookies or something, he muttered, running low on patience. What do you want?

She knew it. She knew she knew she knew it. She knew Tala couldn't do it- because she was right and he was wrong. (As was normally the case in their arguments, not because Jacki's points were valid -- although, they were very very good -- but because Tala was smart enough to know when there was no way he could win and give up already.. which made him a pushover that Jacki took advantage of and this parenthesis is getting long so I'm going to stop now.) "I win!" she declared happily, and then Tala offered to do something fun so long as it was Tala approved which meant it wasn't in any way fun at all... Well that was no fun. "Really?" She sat back down on his bed and crossed her legs and put her hands on them like yanno, the responsible business woman she was. "I'm listening. Make me an offer."
Just to respond to a certain obnoxious narrator, it really wasn't Jacki's fault that doing fun things made her happy. Tala could have seen this as a fun thing.. he was spending time with his favorite sister after all.. but he chose to see it like the Titanic was crashing all over again while a meteor hit the earth on the exact opposite side and the catastrophic sonic effect killed all the small cute animals on the planet. 'You don’t remember?!' "I do, I do!" She just.. needed to find them.. Then she'd remember! 'Can’t you just show me? I’ll make you cookies or something..' For some reason, Tala decided that he was going to be a negotiate today. Luckily, Jacki happened to be a good negotiater herself.. as we saw in the last paragraph. "I like cookies. We can make cookies.. I'll give you all the ones in the kitchen!" Which.. there was only one of.. and he would have found it anyway if they were making cookies.. but that's why Jacki was a good negotiater!

I win! Yup, she was mature. And of course, she had to completely bask in the fact that Tala was willing to entertain her (willing is being used loosely here). He rolled his eyes as she continued to make herself comfortable on his bed. I’m listening. Make me an offer. He crossed his arms, not really coming up with much. We’ll do this later. They needed to just get going if he was going to have enough time to do work later. Going to the living room didn’t help in the least bit because Jacki had no clue where she put anything, so with Tala’s luck most of the papers were scattered in the living room. That was great. I’ll give you all the ones in the kitchen! Fine, let’s go to the kitchen then. He dragged her to the kitchen, went to get flour out and there, in clear sight, was one of his papers. He grabbed it, gave Jacki a look involving narrowed eyes, and placed the paper on the table so it wouldn’t get food all over it. Stay by the counter—I don’t trust you near the stove. If she burned the house down, there’d be no way he’d get his stuff back. Tala wasn’t bad at baking… which was just another reason for people to think he was a complete lost cause as far as a social life was concerned. Once the cookies were in the oven, they had time to sit around and wait, but he was having none of that. They had to stay on task before Jacki became completely useless and forgot every place she’d hidden stuff of his. We have about twenty minutes… Show me another room and I’ll bring you to the mall this week—wait, that should be worth two rooms. This was ridiculous. He had no dignity. He couldn’t just keep bribing her—he’d run out of ways to do so pretty soon. It wasn’t like Jacki’s attention span was going to hold up for long. Ooor… you can just show me where everything is and I’ll watch movies with you twice a week.Okay, so that was kind of pathetic but he was trying. Sometimes Jacki really wished she had a normal sibling. Yanno, like the ones on those TV shows who actually loved their little sisters and spent time with them without bribery.. or having their work hided around the house. I mean, on TV shows, it was the adults who had their work hidden by their adorable attention seeking children. So the point I'm trying to make here is that Tala is like a dinosaur. The TV shows are an actual representation of reality. And I'm actually not trying to make a point here, this is just my filler while Tala tries to think up a good offer. So if you thought this was long, boring, and/or ranty, blame Tala or taking too long.. or Tilly because its her fault Tala took so long. Or you could just blame Ally because that's totally logical in this situation.
"Fine, let’s go to the kitchen then." "Whatever you want!" Jacki supplied helpfully, with the sweet voice again that made it sound like she was doing Tala a favor. Then he found one of the papers and told her to stay by the counter and Jacki scoffed defensibly. "I've used a stove before Tala." I mean- it wasn't like HE cooked for her. That would require leaving his room. Of course she knew how to cook. She did it very well. Baking? That was a different matter. Baking required following instructions and reading instructions and well, Jacki really wasn't a big fan of instructions. I mean, they were like school. Bo-ring. Jacki did things her own way. If you put it on higher you could cook it for less, right? Or you could switch out the baking soda for sugar.. I mean they're both white. Yeah..that was Jacki in the kitchen. But she had used the stove before and not burned the house down and so Tala was really just being ridiculous. "You should really have more faith in me. This isn't good for my self-confidence."
Tala had the cookies in the oven in record time... And then he wanted to go back to paper-hunting. Or well, bribing-Jacki-to-tell-him-where-the-papers-were.. Jacki hadn't expected they'd be playing that game, but she didn't mind, because she enjoyed it- and she never lost! Yes, it wasn't the first time Jacki had gotten something she wanted by annoying Tala long enough for him to give in. All you really needed to do was go into his room while he was studying and try to ask him about his day and you got a 'tomorrow, Jacki' and then tomorrow you pulled the puppy dog eyes and bam, that was that. Lucky for him, he was getting better at this game as time went on. If he kept it up, he might reach the intermediate level by the time he was like thirty. (Or thirty billion, depending on if you wanted that number in dinosaur years.) "For all of them? Mall and movies twice a week. Don't worry, I'll let you pick sometimes too! But I get to pick first, because there's one I really want to see. We can go to the mall on Tuesday." Yeah, so Tala didn't really get a say in these plans anymore. But it was his pathetic idea. He really should have known better than to expect anything else.

Sometimes Tala wished he had a normal sibling but we don’t all get what we want in life. Jacki stole his homework. Of course Tala was going to be in a bad mood, and of course he wasn’t going to want to hang out with her under those circumstances. Had she just asked Tala to hang out with her, he’d have probably said no but on the off chance he said yes he’d have been in a decent mood during the whole thing so clearly this was Jacki’s fault. One day when Tala was living in a box on the side of the road because Jacki ruined his chances of passing his classes, Jacki was going to be sorry that they couldn’t go do fun things because her brother had no money. Whatever you want! Yea, now she was all nice and cooperative. That was how her evil mind worked. I’ve used a stove before Tala. ”I don’t care. You… over there.” She didn’t deserve to help with making cookies after tricking him into thinking he needed her help to find the papers. He did… but she was conniving and she knew he was going to see them in the stove before he agreed to do any of this bonding shit and now Tala was getting very frustrated and you can tell because my narration doesn’t sound smart. Tala put the papers that had been in the stove on the table and eyed his sister. ”Don’t even think about touching those. Don’t even allow your brain to produce the slightest desire to get any part of your person within two feet of those papers.”
You should really have more faith in me. This isn’t good for my self-confidence. ”Your self-confidence levels are incredibly high and considering my being unpleasant in your presence does not interfere with your body’s production of oxytocin, you’ve got nothing to worry about and I think you’re being overdramatic.” The cookies were put into the oven and then Jacki was being too smart when it came to making negotiations. Mall and movies twice a week. ”For two months.” There was no way that was going to end up being like a life long thing. We can go to the mall on Tuesday. ”For two hours.” He shook his head in disbelief that he was agreeing to go do things that social people did…in public. You’d think that mentioning being social the ‘in public’ part was a given but this is Tala we’re talking about. ”Where are we going next?” Time to get this done before Tala lost all of his freedom to his little sister.

For the record, when Tala was living in a box on the side of the road because he has no social skills or practical talents because that’s what happens when you get less than a ninety-five on a math test, Jacki would not be sorry that they couldn’t do fun things because Jacki would be a very successful stunt double slash rock star slash equestrian slash ventriloquist and have plenty of money to support the two of them doing fun things together . So contrary to Tala’s belief, she actually was one step ahead of him with this whole planning things. And he really needed to appreciate her more. Because here she was taking time out of her busy schedule to make sure he was capable of surviving in the real world. Best sister award? Obviously. ”I don’t care. You… over there.” ”Ooookay.” She held her hands up and slowly walked around from the stove. ”Can I stand next to the refrigerator, or is that too dangerous for you too? “ And then he went and started speaking nerd boy which despite living many years in the same house as Tala, Jacki had not picked up. ”Don’t even think about touching those. Don’t even allow your brain to produce the slightest desire to get any part of your person within two feet of those papers.” Okay, yeah, so the general gist of that message was very clear. But Jacki was an opportunist so Tala really shouldn’t have been surprised by the word twisting that soon followed. ”Um, I have no idea what you just said.. but I think you wanted me to take those papers for you so they don’t get dirty. Good idea Tala. I’ll go put them in your room.” She snatched up the papers from the table and held them close before Tala could get them back.
”Your self-confidence levels are incredibly high and considering my being unpleasant in your presence does not interfere with your body’s production of oxytocin, you’ve got nothing to worry about and I think you’re being overdramatic.” And there we went again with the foreign languages. Seriuously, if he was going to do that, he could at least have the decency to get her a common translations book, or use a language more widely understood by google. Like French. French was fun. And so was Russian. It made everyone sound angry all the time. Tala sounded pretty angry now. So… Jacki figured there was speaking Russian. Anyway, on the point of what he actually said… Jacki was never overdramatic. She was always precisely the right amount of dramatic needed for a given situation. Overdramatic was believing that spending an hour doing something fun with your sister would result in you living in a box. Obviously, Tala was an expert at overdrama. But all boys were. It was a thing. ”I think you need to stop speaking science and eat a box of bananas because they make people happy.” Yeah, she learned some things in school. Like that.. and persuasive speaking! And acting. She was a good actor. She could do Shakespeare and all that stuff. See, she had all the useful talents in the family. ”For two months.” ”Done.” she agreed, perfectly fine with that. After all, they still had plenty of more rooms to go through. And there was only so much time Jacki could spend being social in public. ”For two hours.” ”Tala you’re not fun… Three!” Seriously, it wasn’t like she was asking him to do work. In fact, she was convinced she could get him to enjoy himself… by the end of their two-month bonding spree. She was going to do it. It was official. ”Where are we going next?” ”Hmm… do you want the bathroom, or Mom and Dad’s room?” Ha, you thought Jacki had limits? That’s funny. No. She didn’t.

It was nice to know that the more outwardly frustrated Tala became the more amused Jacki was. The last thing he wanted to do was amuse her however it wasn’t like Jacki had ever taken him the least bit seriously so he was sort of out of luck. Can I stand next to the refrigerator, or is that too dangerous for you too? ”I would tell you that’s alright however I have faith in your ability to make me regret that decision.” When it came to Jacki you couldn’t be too careful. After his spurt of anger, she either literally had no clue what he said or she was deliberately trying to anger him and at the moment Tala could not determine which was more likely. She grabbed the papers before he could take them (let’s face it he didn’t have very quick reflexes) and he sighed exasperatedly. ”Just be careful.” At that point he was willing to just redo the work because it wouldn’t take him that long—just like five or six hours and that would just mean more time to be in his room which he was very okay with. Though he wasn’t going to tell Jacki that because then his chances of getting the work back were slim to none.
I think you need to stop speaking science and eat a box of bananas because they make people happy. He rolled his eyes again and I’m starting to learn that Tala really has an attitude when he’s angry. Anyway, she always managed to use the one thing she randomly happened to know against him no matter what they were doing. ”Bananas do not make you happy—serotonin does—and that’s only assuming there’s no stress coming from an outside source.” Yea, that would be Jacki. Fortunately, she finally agreed to something although if that was as fortunate as Tala was going to be it was going to be a long day. He’d have to go to the movies with her regularly for two months and they were both going to be out of money by the time this whole ridiculous situation was over. She had to argue staying in a mall longer and he didn’t think he could stand going to the mall for longer than fifteen seconds but he wouldn’t know because he hadn’t tried. Tala you’re not fun… Three! ”The mall isn’t fun. Three—that’s it.” He was a smart guy and if he could figure a way out of going to the mall he was going to do so. It was just a matter of outsmarting Jacki which was surprisingly difficult to do. Hmm… do you want the bathroom, or Mom and Dad’s room? ”Come on,” he said unenthusiastically as he headed for the bathroom.
