HISTORY:
It was almost love at first sight, well at least that's what her parents told her. Victoria was a music major and Justin an art major at Carnegie Mellon. They met in a brief run in. Literally. He was late to his next class and ran as fast as he could into dear old Vicky and spilt her coffee all over the two of them. He asked her out for a cup to make up for the one he practically destroyed. She accepted it graciously, thinking that the whole situation was hilarious. They hit it off and soon became a serious couple. Two years after college, Justin proposed and Victoria accepted without hesitation. A little more than a year after their wedding, little Elizabella was born and they couldn't be happier.
The family of three was happy living in their small but colorful home that was full of personality. The two were huge believers in individualism and vowed to raise their daughter to be able to express herself in any way possible. They were so worried about her maintaining her uniqueness that when she was four and drew on the wall, they actually praised her and put a frame over the area she drew on.
Although Liz was happy in her early years, she ran into trouble when she began school. Elementary school wasn't that bad as everyone was young and naive and didn't care much about how weird she dressed. Middle school was when the hell began. Sixth grade she remained blissfully ignorant of the giggles and whispers that followed her. Seventh grade was when it really started. A group of girls approached her nearly everyday and taunted her about her choice of clothing which wasn't always the most subtle. She endured the bullying but slowly it began to wear her down. She became more reserved and quiet. It got worse in her eighth grade, and freshman year in High School became unbearable due to the bullying she seemed to attract. She lost interest in meeting new people and stayed by herself more often. Her self esteem was greatly affected and she began to tone down her wardrobe. Her parents noticed of course but never thought that it was as bad as it was. After actually witnessing the bullying in her Junior year they made up their mind and decided to move from their small town in Pennsylvania to an even smaller town of Forks, Washington. It was tiny, off the radar, and no one really knew where it was. It was perfect for someone who wanted to start over. Liz was honestly relieved.
They had waited until Liz's Junior year was complete until they moved to Forks. They bought a quaint house near the border to the La Push Reservation, and they settled in quickly. September approached quickly and Lizzie began her Senior and final year of High School. She was extremely nervous, given her track record she wasn't the most confident and being the new girl wasn't much help either. She made sure that she wore an outfit that represented her, but wasn't too over the top. Despite her troubles in school, she refused to let people take down her individualism all the way, and she retained most of her belief that people were each unique in their own special way. As she approached the small school, she took a deep breath. This was her second chance and she would make it count.
RP SAMPLE:
Lizzie looked up at the ceiling in her new room and sighed, listening to the sweet sound of her mother's flute drifting its way into her room. The room was too plain. In face the whole house was plain. They would have to change that soon. Her old room was a bright orange back in Pennsylvania, maybe she could paint this one a neon green. She looked out of her large window and saw the dreary grey skies and green moss that covered nearly every surface. Maybe a green bedroom would cause her to overdose on green. It was her favorite color, but there was a such thing as too much of a good thing.
It was a Saturday morning, nearly noon, and Liz had nothing to do other than lay in bed and worry about that upcoming September. The month she would once again start High School. She hadn't had the most pleasant of experiences in High School, or school in general. It wasn't that she was a bad kid. Not at all. It was the people she had encountered at school that made it not very nice for her. She shook her head as she began to remember the unpleasant social interactions she endured.
She sighed again, probably a bit too melodramatically, but she felt so bored that maybe she needed a bit of drama. She paused at that thought. Nope she didn't need any drama in her life, she was perfectly happy with her undramatic life. Though she wouldn't be able to stand to have a boring life. She sat up quickly and groaned as she felt the blood rushing to her head. After she made sure she would fall over if she stood up, she quickly changed from her pajamas into a pair of washed out jeans with paint splattered all over them, a large colorful t-shirt, and a pair of converse from her large collection. She quickly brushed her hair and put it up into a messy bun. When she deemed herself at least sort of presentable, she grabbed her old cellphone and iPod, and she made her way downstairs.
The first thing she saw was her mother sitting on the kitchen table playing the flute and her father painting the cupboards bright yellow. She could understand her father painting the kitchen abnormal colors, but she gave her mother a questioning look, but decided not to ask her about it. She grabbed an apple from the basket that was sitting on the counter before turning to her parents, "I'm bored, can I take a walk?" Her mother grinned at her and stopped playing, "Of course you can take a walk. Go exploring. This is a new town, go see what you can find!" She said happily. Liz looked to her father and he shrugged and gave her two thumbs up. She rolled her eyes at her parents, "You're weird" Her parents looked at each other and grinned, "That's what we aim for, honey. We thought you'd be used to it after nearly eighteen years" Her mother said. Lizzie grinned at her and waved to her parents, "I won't be out for too long." She walked out the door and inhaled the fresh air of the small town.
She took her iPod out of her pocket and put the ear buds in her ear and grinned when the music began. She was like her mother in that respect. She loved music so much that she just got lost in it every time she listened to her music. she couldn't help but love it. She soon found herself at the entrance to the forest, she shrugged and continued walking. She looked around the green forest, the rain droplets from earlier still on the leaves of the foliage around. She nodded her head in time with the music in her ears and grinned slightly at how peaceful she felt at that moment. She didn't really feel very peaceful anymore, but now she felt as if nothing could ruin that feeling.
