It was the rain that kept everyone inside. It pattered lightly on the pavement, giant drops making everything slippery and wet. Pete didn’t care though. His long legs pushed him easily down the sidewalk with long loping strides. The rain felt good on his skin, cooling his forever boiling hot skin. It was a wonder that the drops didn’t touch his skin and then just evaporate into nothing. He shook his head, drops of water from his hair flying everywhere as he did so. The kid was on a mission. A sort of impossible mission. And neither rain nor snow was going to keep him from getting this done.
Ever since Pete had learned that his sister’s imprint was back in town, he’d wanted to go and talk to him. Though he didn’t necessarily like the fact Keisha imprinted on a vampire, she was his sister after all and PJ, though Pete had only met him once, really wasn’t that bad of a guy. Keisha had gone through quite a bit of hell to keep her imprint safe from the rest of the pack. Mainly, Pete’s self proclaimed mission of the day was to make sure PJ understood just how much pain she went through for his well being. Not to mention, Pete was also going to make absolutely sure that PJ wasn’t going to use that to his advantage either. There was no way Pete could take PJ on, that much was obvious, but he wasn’t going to let a guy take advantage of the strongest female he knew either.
All the same, Pete just wanted to get it done and over with. He truly wasn’t a very threatening person, but he was fulfilling his brotherly duties by doing this. And in a very nonthreatening manner as well. That was going to be the main thing. Keisha was the fighting one, especially when she got all fired up. Pete was not. So he and the vampire-in-law were going to sit down, chat, and have a nice cup of… well whatever the two of them could agree on. And speaking of that whole in-law thing, Pete wasn’t exactly sure how that all worked. Mainly because his sister was the crazy one that this crap actually happened to. Anyway, was it because Pete’s sister, a child of the same blood, imprinted on PJ that he himself could stand the vampire? Usually the smell of vampires repulsed Pete to no end, just with their stench. But not from PJ. I mean sure, he didn’t smell great, but it was tolerable. Pete didn’t know exactly how that all worked… course they were probably the first shifters to ever go through this mess.
Wandering down the street, Pete eyes the houses. It was after much snooping around on his part, and a lot of trying to secretly follow his sister, that he finally managed to figure out the general location of where PJ lived. The shifter believed that if he got close enough to the house he would be able to pick up the scent fairly quickly. It just happened that he was right on the money with that. He was wondering through a small part of town with some older style houses. They were totally glorious in any particular way, but they had a bit of character to them. The scent here was thick with vampires, seeing as it was a main pass through into town, but Pete could pick up PJ’s scent pretty easily. He loped along in the direction where it got stronger and stronger until he finally he stopped at one of the houses on the end of a dead end street.
Standing on the sidewalk in the rain, Pete looked at the house for a moment, suddenly unsure of what he exactly intended to do here. Shaking his head, he pulled in a deep breath, puffing out his chest for a second. He was here for his sister. To get his point across and to make sure nothing else happened to her. Pete didn’t want to see her go through the pain again like she had already. Exhaling his deep breath, Pete strode right up the walk, and to the base of the stairs. He climbed up onto the front porch and stared at the door. There was only a moment’s hesitation before Pete lifted his hand and knocked quickly on the door. Then he scooted back a little bit from the door and waited patiently for someone to answer. He was really starting to hope, PJ was actually home in the first place, otherwise, he had made the trip for nothing. If that happened, he wasn’t sure he could find the courage to go and do it again.

It was nice to relax and just listen to it. Or even play music and watch it. Either way rain was very relaxing to the man. When he wasn’t grading history papers. If it wasn’t for the district PJ would have never assigned these papers to begin with. He hated homework when he was in school and hated grading homework even more. PJ loved people, loved history, and loved teaching. He just hated the extra work that came with it. But this whole homework thing was not really up to him at this point. The school district didn’t give him the option of just giving out tests. There had to be some homework in his classes, otherwise they would never know if the students were retaining anything. Not like tests couldn’t confirm that to begin with. That’s what they were for after all. And PJ knew that once the tests and assignments were done the students purposely forgot all the information. It is what he did to all the other subjects in school.
Peter John rubbed his eyes before turning back to the paper in front of him. He was having severe ADD at the moment. For one he had the house to himself. Gwen was at work or with her new boyfriend…or something like that. He really stopped paying attention to that woman lately. Things had changed for both of them, extremely, when they moved to Forks. Gwen was actually making friends, best friends, solving her romantic problems. She was even smiling more now. PJ didn’t question it though. It was nice to see this change in his sister. It warmed his dead heart to know that she was happy again (even if she wouldn’t admit it). So you know, house…alone. So many things he could do now that she wasn’t home. Not like the two bugged each other. But it was nice to be able to blast whatever music you wanted or television show you wanted without thinking about the other person in the house. They liked some of the same stuff but sometimes it was nice to not have to consider someone else in his hobbies.
PJ was a sweet guy, don’t me wrong. He loved life and loved people. But even sweet people needed a day to themselves. Where they only thought about themselves. PJ had tried to live years with putting people before him. It didn’t work, so he knew that every once and while it was nice to think about himself before anyone else. Of course these chances were rare for him, well they were until his anti-social sister became a social butterfly all of a sudden. So yes the house held many distractions. And then there was the laptop sitting in front of him with the internet. He kept it open to update his grade book when he was done with a paper. But of course that meant the internet was open and available. It was just calling his name. While Gwen preferred books and the outdoors to television and the internet, PJ liked the new technology and what it brought. There were cat videos available on the Tube of You! Like how was that not entertaining! And distracting, obviously.
Then there was the small fact that he had no motivation to grade papers today. None whatsoever. His mind was on something else. Aside from all the distractions around him PJ’s mind was already occupied with something else. Well someone else. Keisha. She was beautiful and strong. She was his mate. The reason for him being in this small town to begin with. He traveled the world searching for her and was ecstatic to finally found her. So yes it was a bit difficult to be apart from her and try to not focus on him. But there were many complications to their relationship. Complications that needed to be sorted out before the two can start their lives together. That and PJ promised himself that he wouldn’t be the couple to completely surround themselves with each other and nothing else. He had a life, a job, friends. Granted he really just wanted to be around Keisha all the time, he wasn’t going to do that. He still had his job and Gwen…and there were some complications to this whole thing.
PJ inhaled sharply and nearly gagged. He could smell a shifter coming towards his door. Panic rushed through his veins. He reminded himself that they weren’t going to try anything today. If anything the shifters would threaten him and tell him to never step on their land again. PJ took in the scent and noticed it was slightly familiar. The scent wasn’t completely awful and it reminded him of Keisha. But it wasn’t Keisha. He stood up from the table just as a soft knock sounded from the front door. He quietly slid his headphone off and set them on the table. PJ sprinted over to the door and opened it slowly. There was a kind but caution smile on his face. “Hello! May I help you?” he asked kindly to the person at the door. It was a young boy. A boy that looked so familiar, in more ways than one. PJ knew he knew him from somewhere but couldn’t think of where.
