It was really all Leah's fault... Okay, so it was Paul's fault first.. and then Sam's.. but he was going to blame Leah anyway, because she never let him do anything fun, and the others just really didn't care as long as they didn't have to deal with it (yes, Seth knew this. he's not an idiot). When you were a shifter, your friends were basically limited to other shifters, and so when all the shifters were busy with their own lives (which generally consisted of a whole lot of complaining and a whole lot of kissing and if there was anything else to it Seth hadn't seen it yet), it was a little hard to find things to do. There really just weren't enough people -- especially people that actually enjoyed the company of other human beings -- in the area. And so of course, Seth's thoughts immediately went to the new shifters who were living just outside La Push. Which, apparently, if you asked the aforementioned people, was a very bad thing for them to be doing.
It wasn't like he'd never gone off the reservation before. The borders were meant to keep others out (mostly of the vampire variety) but there was no real reason for them to be constrained inside. When he was younger he played on the outskirts of the forest all the time. Yeah, now he was a shifter and that was the packs 'territory' and they weren't supposed to just leave but.. it wasn't like there'd been another pack living next door when he first phased for someone to feel the need to explain that you couldn't just show up where they were living and not get into big trouble. Leah had told him not to go mess with the other shifters until the pack sorted things out..but that was Leah, and she was paranoid, and he was part of the pack, so it wasn't a big deal. Besides, Seth was extremely well versed at a concept that was foreign to his sister- he could make friends.
Anyway, he'd crossed the border line and no alarms went off so he any worries he might have had that his annoying, overprotective sister was right about something vanished in a very dramatic overly animated puff of smoke. He'd already met one of the new shifters.. she was nice.. and he was kind of hoping he could meet up with some of the others. It was still light enough out that he figured someone would be..well, doing something. The whole randomly-happening-upon-someone plan was starting to seem like it wasn't his best one -he was sort of just waking around aimlessly waiting for something to happen- until he heard a noise (which could have totally just been a squirrel or something.. but yanno.) He stopped moving, remembering how Paul always got when they ran into people.. Yeah, hopefully they weren't anything like Paul. "Uh..hello?"

Devon wasn’t one to follow rules. Even rules made by her alpha, hence how she got in trouble so much. And also why she got stuck with all the jobs that Keisha didn’t want. Was it Devon’s fault? No. Her alpha should know better than to give her rules, politely asking Devon NOT to do something would be more effective. But of course her alpha hasn’t caught on to that. And probably won’t until the next century. But that was okay with her because that more rules she would get to break and she found immense amount of joy from breaking her pack rules. It was like a giant sugar rush right after drinking an unnecessary energy drink. This is probably why Keisha repeatedly told her she was a bad influence to Keisha’s little brother. Something that Devon was very much aware of before she decided to even join them. Something Keisha should have known by just looking at the girl. It wasn’t like she kept this trait hidden. That would be like lying, and Devon wasn’t a fan of liars. Manipulators were fine, liars…not so much. There was a difference!
The female shifter lightly stepped over a branch making sure no harm went to her black boots. Were high heels efficient in the woods? Not for a normal girl, but Devon wasn’t normal. If you didn’t already get that. Now where was that border? Devon had traveled into La Push only once for a cliff diving adventure. An experience she would surely not forget. She had met someone from the other pack. Paul? Was that his name? Thinking about him now, he didn’t really look like a Paul. Maybe a Scott? But his name was definitely Paul that she remembers, despite the fact that she will now call him Scott. The two seemed okay with each other, enough for Devon to travel back into their territory. Despite the fact that her alpha made it clear not to do so until they figure things out. She already broke the rules once, why not break them again? It’ll be easier this time, she feel less awful about it.
Devon continued onward! The shifter was surely going to get lost; this was only her second time attempting a visit into La Push. She had somewhat familiarized the forest around her and Keisha’s home. But that was about it. She was more familiar with the Port Angeles mall than she was with the woods. A true shifter she was not. Dev lightly hoped over a log and froze. The scent of another shifter was close. Either she was by the border, or someone traveled onto ‘their land’. Or it was someone from her own pack. OR it was a crazy nomad shifter that was sent to kill her. Dev felt a mental slap from her brain at that thought. The female shifter stayed where she was until she heard a small voice. It didn’t sound threatening. She slowly peaked around a tree and caught site of a small boy. “Hello…” she stated slowly from behind the tree. Devon watched the boy carefully, not really sure if she should show herself, or pretend she was the tree and talk from behind it.

Technically, Seth wasn't breaking any rules. Had he been explicitly told, by his alpha, that he wasn't allowed to make friends with the other shifters...he'd have waited at least a week or something before deciding that this was just ridiculous. But Leah's word alone wasn't going to do it. That wasn't 'rule'- that was nagging. There was a difference. This is just pointless rambling to fill up space. Hi Ally ily What Seth was doing wasn't going to cause any problems for either of the packs. He'd met someone from the other pack. She liked him. Yep. He was just going to keep telling himself that, as he walked around the forest, pretty much having no idea where he was going or what he was looking for, and getting increasingly more sure that he wasn't alone. Horror movies started out this way. All the time. He'd seen them. They.. okay they weren't actually very realistic at all.. and, they didn't really take the whole some-people-happen-to-be-shifters thing into consideration.. but still.
'Hello..' His eyes widened and he took a few steps backwards, backing into a tree and spinning around to make sure nobody was behind it (Because yeah, that whole "talking tree" explanation, he was too smart for that, yeup). "Who are you??" Okay, so, 'where are you' probably would have been a better question, but he wasn't thinking. If he was thinking, he would have realized that he was perfectly capable of figuring our where she was by himself, hearing her and all. He looked both ways and tried to calm down.. which.. would have been easier if he wasn't in the middle of the forest with another shifter who wasn't showing herself and.. and he'd been with Paul when running into people who weren't from their pack- it was a traumatizing experience. But she wasn't phased. She said hello. People who wanted to kill you didn't say hello. He took a deep breath and looked in the direction he was pretty sure she was in. "Um..Hi.." Okay, so they'd probably said that enough times now. "I'm Seth.. I'm sorry.. if I'm not supposed to be here.. I'll leave.. but, um.. I know Keisha!.. Could you please come out now.. Because I don't really like talking to trees."

Devon suppressed the urge to giggle as she watched the boy from behind the tree. Yes, she was mean and a bad person. Scaring a poor child was not something a normally nice human being did. Then again she wasn’t a human being, she was a shifter. And Devon wasn’t exactly nice, per say. “I am…” the female shifter glanced around trying to think of something creative to say. Nothing was really coming to mind. She sighed loudly as she listened to the boy ramble. Damn guilt. She scrunched up her nose and walked around the tree so the boy could see her. “I’m Devon, Keisha’s beta.” The title was unneeded in a simple introduction. But Devon felt the need to say it. Not only to solidify the fact that she was in Keisha’s pack but also to show what rank she was. Not that this child probably cared. It was more for her own self-esteem. To remind herself that she actually went somewhere in life. That she was no longer an omega like she was when she was growing up.
“And what’s wrong with talking to trees? I hear they are wonderful conversationalists,” Devon stated in a complete joking manner. But they could be great things to talk to. They never talk back or say anything that would generally annoy the female shifter. Honestly they made great listeners. Every time there was something wrong Devon would rant to the trees. Yes it was a crazy notion but it did happen. Sometimes venting to inanimate objects was better than venting to talking ones. Because everybody needed to put their opinion into the situation or said they were listening but really wasn’t. Sometimes Devon just wanted to rant about her problems. Like the hassle of being a beta, or the fact that even though she hated vampires she was making friends with one. Or the fact that everybody in her pack was imprinting and she was kind of a lost cause. Ah, so many things wrong. But Devon didn’t care she took everything in stride. Or she would get drunk.
“You met Keisha?” Devon questioned. Her alpha sure did get around to meeting everybody from the other pack. And surely she mentioned the ones she met to her but none of the names really rang a bell. Probably because Devon usually spaced out when Keisha ranted about useless things. Yes, Dev was one of those people that didn’t actually listen, the ones she complained about earlier. And since she knew this about herself, she knew other people did it to. Which is why it was so bothersome to even vent to others. Though sometimes it was nice to run into those that had an opinion about situations. Sometimes they helped, people like her alpha. And sometimes they were bothersome, just like people that acted like her. Eh, life was a puzzle like that.

She really didn't make him wait that long, but it felt like forever before she finally walked out from behind the tree, and she looked a lot less scary than Seth was expecting (because you know, now she was a human being and not a talking tree- and lets face it, just the idea of them, even when they're not completely evil, they're kind of creepy and very intimidating). “I’m Devon, Keisha’s beta.” Well, that saved him all the trouble of asking if she was in the other pack. Not only was she in it but she had a position of importance. (Important positions were impressive.) She also wasn't telling him to get out soo... things were going pretty well.
Seth couldn't help but laugh when she made the joke about the tree. Saying that he was talking to one had been kind of far fetched. "Do they? Did you hear that from a tree? I always thought they were kind of quiet." As much as a tree could be good to talk to because it wouldn't judge or interrupt or tell you to shut up, it also wouldn't be helpful or fun or..in any way responsive-- well, it wouldn't do much of anything... Because it was a tree... And trees didn't talk. (Says the boy who turns into a wolf.) Seth really just preferred the company of people (or, you know, since that's politically uncorrect in this fandom.. anyone that talks back.)
“You met Keisha?” He nodded. "Right after you guys showed up- well, after she met Paul. I went to her house." He supposed it was possible that they'd been there longer, but Seth only knew up to what the older shifter, and later Keisha, told him. The going to her house thing hadn't exactly been on purpose. He'd just been looking for her..and that's where he found her..and he didn't even know it was hers at first..but he knew a whole lot about her by the time they were done talking. The two of them got along well enough, and so Seth figured that Devon would be as easy to talk to. Then again, if she wasn't, she wouldn't be that different than most of the shifters Seth knew either.

“Actually yes I did,” Devon stated in a defiant tone. She nodded once and put her hands on her hips in a child-like manner. “Well once you get them to open up, they are quite the talkers.” Was she a bit crazy? Yes. But sanity was for the boring and the uncool people. Devon was neither boring nor uncool. She was very awesome in deed, at least that’s what she thought. And most of her pack didn’t seem to complain. At least not to her face. And she would like to think that they were cool enough people to tell her when she did something upsetting. Not that Devon would change her ways if they did tell her. But she would appreciate the honesty.
Her house too. Bet the small child didn’t know that. It didn’t matter really; Devon knew it would just be a matter of time before they were off again. Keisha would want them to move eventually, to divert suspicion and such. Though that might be difficult since Keisha’s little brother recently imprinted on a human. Details the pack was surely going to have to deal with at a later date. “Oh yea, Paul’s part of your pack! He’s a pretty cool guy,” Devon stated with a small smile. It was pretty obvious that Seth was from the other pack, Devon only knew of the two packs in the area. And that was it. So by process of elimination, Seth and Paul were in one pack while Keisha and Devon were in the other. Obviously!
Devon met Paul, went cliff diving with him. She had a fun time with him. Didn’t see why Keisha made such a fuss about him. He wasn’t that bad to Devon. Then again, only a certain type of person got along with Devon. And those people didn’t generally get along with the rest of the world. Which is why she wasn’t really sure why Keisha didn’t get along with Paul…she got along with Devon. They were best friends after all. Of course their relationship required some psychological interference. She knew a few therapists that would have a field day with Keisha and Devon’s relationship. Let alone their whole pack’s relationship.

“Actually yes I did,” "Sometime you should introduce me to one. I'm sure they tell very good stories." Okay, so this whole encounter had gone from death-defying-horror-movie to comedy for small children but.. Seth wasn't complaining. No way. Devon had made him laugh and it hadn't even been a few minutes. Any reservations he'd had about sneaking onto Catori territory were long gone. Obviously, they weren't going to kill him. (Because if they were, this was a very twisted, misleading, drawn-out way to go about it.) And they were both shifters, so it wasn't like he was at any real disadvantage. I mean, everyone else seemed to think so, but he didn't. Sometimes he wished something would happen so he could prove it.
Of course, aside from the fact they were in different packs, Devon wasn't giving Seth any reason to think they couldn't be friends, so the whole 'something going horribly wrong' idea was completely hypothetical. '“Once you get them to open up, they are quite the talkers.” "I guess I've been hanging out with the wrong type." Ha. Ha. That was funny. Because.. they were talking about trees, and some trees seemed much happier than others, but... that statement could also apply to the shifters. Seth had definitely been hanging out with the wrong crowd of them. Here, he thought all shifters were bitter and moody. Boy was this pack making him realize he was wrong. Of course, Devon seemed to think there were some perfectly hospitable shifters in his pack. Or, more specifically a perfectly hospitable shifter.
Had Seth been drinking anything, he would have spit it out when Devon declared that Paul was a pretty cool guy. There had to be another Paul in La Push or something- even though Seth was pretty sure there wans't. I mean, Seth looked up to him, he liked spending time with him, and maybe he'd have even called Paul cool once or twice (or like a hundred times but cool was one of the most overused words in Seth's vocabulary so it meant absolutely nothing) but that generally wasn't an impression that he heard echoed from other people. Keisha had been a prime example of how he expected people to react. Annoyed and offended and all that good stuff- double letter words, you know. "Yeah, he is! You met him too? When'd you meet him?" Whenever it was, that was definitely the time Paul needed to schedule all his meetings in the future.

Devon let out a laugh and smiled at Seth, “Sure, kid.” Dev actually liked this small child. He was cute and funny. And definitely had an imagination that rivaled hers. Those were all qualities that she appreciated and liked in a person. Anybody that could keep up with her in any department was cool with her. Though generally she liked the ones who could verbally spare with her. But those with her imagination were also cool too. Imagination made the world go round and round and round. Dev would be a very boring person without her imagination and personality. Hell without it she wouldn’t be where she was at. She would be poor in New York City. But with her imagination she managed to achieve some social status, money, and an awesome reputation. At least in that city. In this small town…well it was a work in progress. Let’s just go with that.
“Are we still talking about trees?” Devon asked, being a little curious. That was the basis of their conversation. They were originally talking about trees. At least Devon was. But his statement could be relevant to the shifters he hangs out with and the vampires he could have possibly met. Really it could relate to any being on this planet. If you hang out with the wrong kind of vampire, you automatically assume they were all bad. If you hang out with obnoxious shifters, you would assume that they were all obnoxious. Of course that was pretty much the case. It was like some built it shifter thing. Once your shifter gene was activated then you became an obnoxious fool. But Devon was okay with that. Anybody who couldn’t handle her wasn’t worth a five minute conversation, let alone a friendship.
Dev pretty much knew Paul and Seth were in the same pack. There were no other packs around the area. And any lone shifter she had met automatically joined her pack. Because Keisha had this thing with taking misfits in. While she was grateful to be taken in herself, she really didn’t appreciate the fact that her pack was growing. That was just more people that could read her mind and that she would obligated to have some trust for. After all what was a pack without trust? So Devon had a bit of an issue every time Keisha let someone join them. And she would let her alpha know straight up, but of course her best friend would never change her mind. Though the Beta had to admit, Keisha was a pretty good judge of character. After all Devon actually liked and tolerated her pack mates. Yea she wasn’t too pleased about it at first. Now she’s actually glad to have met them and their crazy families. “A couple days ago, up at the cliffs. We were cliff diving together.” Dev was really causal about it but on the inside she was laughing her head off at the memory of Paul walking in on her stripping.

This whole thing really was illogical. Even if trees did talk, being the one who lived here his whole life, Seth would know which ones were the most interesting. But maybe they weren't interesting here and they had to go somewhere else to find interesting trees. Not that there actually were any interesting trees. Well, interesting in that particular verbal communication sort of way. This entire thing was entirely hypothetical. In it's entirety. Which is why when Devon agreed to show him they dropped the tree discussion (kind of). They dropped the hypothetical part.. because it was only fair they stopped using their imaginations and gave some of the other less imaginative people in the world a chance to catch up.
'Are we still talking about trees?' Whoa.. whoa...maybe she was a mind reader. Seth tried not to look too surprised as he shook his head and laughed. (But really, that was too much of a coincidence.) "I was... Kinda." I mean, you could only talk about trees for so long in one thread. Especially in the forest here. It wasn't like a rain forest or anything, where there were lots of different types of trees. They all looked almost exactly the same. But I'm not going to talk about trees in this post anymore.. I swear. We're now moving on the Seth's second most commonly mentioned topic because he's obviously a very interesting person to talk about especially when he's not around. (That's Paul, by the way.. in case you needed any clarification.) Seth tried to refrain from looking surprised again when Devon told him that they'd been cliff diving just a few days ago.
"Wow, that's weird. Paul doesn't usually like doing things with.. anyone." Okay, so there was probably a less blunt way to go about saying that, but Seth had tried to hold it back when she said he was cool. Them doing something together? This was just getting too weird. However, he took full credit for all of Paul's social progress. "But you like cliff diving too? That's awesome!" Paul had take him cliff diving for the first time not too long ago, and Seth had really enjoyed it. So, he already knew that she must have been a fun person.. I mean, he'd sort of figured it out during the whole tree conversation but this was definitely solidifying the idea.
"So.. this is your territory, right? I kind of lost track. What are you doing out here anyway?" Obviously, if it was hers, she could be doing whatever she wanted and Seth didn't even care if she was on their but.. clearly she didn't spend all of her time hiding behind trees waiting to scare unsuspecting young shifters. And there wasn't a lot else here to do. So, it seemed like a pretty good question in Seth's head.

Well okay they didn’t have to allude to something. But eventually a person would start twisting things around and finding symbolism. You know like those crazy women out there. Like Devon. Women typically did it on accident to get themselves worked up and start drama. Devon did it on purpose to start drama and twist people in the way she wanted them. The woman was a master manipulator. If she got paid for her work, she would be a billionaire. Like an actual one, not a woman trying to be one around other people. Actually Forks and La Push were the only places that she actually played up the whole normal girl thing. Honestly she was still getting money from those around the world that either owed her, were being black mailed by her, or were still pining for her approval. Yea, Devon was just that good. Too bad it took her this long to get actual friends. Devon really didn’t have the ability to call someone her friend until she came here and joined up with Keisha.
“I think I won his heart over with my confidence….and possibly the random stripping,” Devon stated with a smirk and a chuckle. She knew Paul didn’t get turned on in the way a normal guy was by her stripping. But her being bold enough to strip in a strange place probably helped win his ‘friendship’. Again it came down to Devon’s confidence and charisma. Dev could play the most confident and cocky person ever, but honestly she was the most insecure person on the planet. She could pick out everything wrong with her if given the chance. That’s why she worked so hard to be perfect. To keep things as picture perfect. And part of that job was acting like the most confident girl in the country, at least. Though Dev did have a headstrong personality and if it wasn’t for the years of torment growing up, Dev’s actual personality would be the one she was portraying in front of Seth right now. But that whole psychology thing was for another lifetime. Maybe in another hundred years Devon will learn to get over her problems. For now she was putting up as many fronts and faces as she could. “Oh yea! Cliff diving is amazing! Just wish there were some cliffs in our territory, you guys got all the good ones.” There was no bitterness to her tone, she was purely joking around with the boy.
Devon glanced around nervously, well there’s a slight chink in her armor. It might be her pack’s territory but Dev was still new and obviously had no idea where she was. So she was lost. It was a little embarrassing. “Yea, this is the border…I think…” Devon glanced around. All these damn trees were the same damn thing. If only one of them could be different to let her know where exactly she was. But no all these trees have look the same, and Dev has to keeping harping on it. “Honestly, I’m a little lost…all these damn trees look the same.” Okay so maybe a person can talk about trees for a little longer. But not much longer after this. Devon was crazy about not looking embarrassed of flustered, so this kind of set her façade back a step. That didn’t matter though, because sooner or later she was going to convince the Catori siblings to ditch this boring ass place something bigger. Like California. Devon always had fun in that state.

“Kind of? ... I was kind of alluding to people…kind of.” Kind of was the new 'entirely', apparently. Which means I'll need to use it at least three or four more times in this paragraph, which won't be hard since Seth was kind of alluding to people too. He didn't really think the shifters in his pack were that bad. He actually liked most of them a lot.. the one's in Keisha's pack just seemed a lot more friendly and a lot less intimidating and it was kind of nice. Of course, Seth had no idea that Devon was like a master manipulator person and he wouldn't assume that even if she was obvious about it because he was Seth, and he generally looked past stuff like that. "I guess it applies to people too." he nodded, since yanno, people were a bit more of a conversational topic than trees.
He was really surprised that Paul and Devon got along, but he was even more surprised when Devon told him why. “I think I won his heart over with my confidence….and possibly the random stripping.” Okay, that was just a bit TMI and Seth was kind of shocked. "Why were you..." Yeah he didn't want to know. "Paul didn't flip out?" I mean, she was a strange girl from a different pack on their territory stripping. And Paul hated like.. all people that breathed. I mean, he got the confidence thing but.. yeah just gonna change the subject now. They apparently had all the good cliffs, which really must have sucked for the other pack, since cliff diving seemed to be a universally enjoyed activity. "Oh, well, you could use our cliffs, I mean if you went with one of us.. you could come with me and Paul.. I don't think anyone would mind.. Well, they might, but it's not a big deal." Paul probably wouldn't care if he got along with her. Jarod and Embry and Quill were usually pretty okay with people and Sam and Jake... well they were kind of outnumbered in this situation. So good, the cliffs were shared territory then, Seth had decided (because we all know he had that kind of authority.)
Seth really had no idea where he was. I mean, he knew he was in the forest. But he had no idea what side of the border he was on. Maybe they were ON the boarder. Devon seemed to think that's where they were. Worked for him. "I'm not sure either.. But it probably is." Seth had never really needed to know where the border was because after their territory was open forest and going there wasn't a big deal. Now that there was another pack.. well, it would really be nice if someone drew a line or something because these trees weren't a good index. “Honestly, I’m a little lost…all these damn trees look the same.” "They do. We should really put a marker somewhere or something." I mean, the plan had it's flaws Cal and Blake taught us this But if it was bright and there were a few of them then it would probably be a pretty good index. Or they could just, yanno, not care who was on what side at what time and just coexist peacefully. That was an idea too. Not one Seth was going to suggest to Paul or Sam or Keisha or even Devon, but it was a pretty good idea.

But Devon wasn’t about to try and manipulate this kid into saying something about his pack. Or anything like that. He was a nice kid and she didn’t really want to do anything mean to him. He was kind of adorable. “No, he seemed pretty okay with the whole thing. I mean it wasn’t like I was completely naked or anything.” Yea, Devon was awesome at manipulating other people and reading them. When she was trying. But when she didn’t try at all she became oblivious. Like the fact that she was oblivious to the fact that Seth was more than likely uncomfortable with the idea of Devon stripping on his territory. Though Paul seemed completely okay with it. Like the girl said, it wasn’t like she was completely naked. She had her underwear and bra on. And it wasn’t completely random either. She was going cliff diving and didn’t want to get her clothes wet. Again, she didn’t see the problem in the whole thing. Then again she wasn’t trying hard enough. If she really tried, she would stop talking about the whole thing completely.
“I think if I can make friends with Paul, I can make friends with the rest of your pack. No offense to Paul or anything, I’m just assuming that he’s the most difficult of the whole group.” It was true. He didn’t seem like a difficult person to make friends with around her. But Keisha certainly didn’t like him. And Seth seemed genuinely surprised at the thought of her and Paul getting along. So she just put two and two together. Paul was generally a difficult person. And Devon technically won him over. So as far as she was concerned, she was in the clear. Clearly. “Thanks for the invite kid. I’ll have to take you up on that offer sometime.” Cliff diving with Paul and Seth sounded fun honestly. It would be nice to hang out with shifters that couldn’t read her thoughts or saw her naked. She lived with Keisha and Pete, the three of them shared the bathroom…obviously some nudity was shared at some point. And like stated earlier, Paul didn’t technically see her naked. Just saw her in her underwear.
“That seems logical. Just gotta find a marker that shows up in the grass and dirt.” Yes of course that was logical. This is same girl that talked about trees that could talk for ten minutes earlier. So clearly using a marker to draw their border would be perfectly logical to her. Of course it wouldn’t be a problem if the pack could just learn how to share the territory. It wasn’t hard to be friendly with other. Really, they should give it a try sometime. Look at Devon, she was being herself and being friendly, and she was making friends with the other pack. Keisha should really take some lessons from her. It would be for the pack’s benefit. She glanced around the boring forest. “You wanna come back to the house with me? I’m getting a little bored of this area.” With the two of them they could surely find Keisha’s house. Plus it would be more fun there anyways. There were video games, movies, cookies…yes lots of fun. Of course there was also alcohol. But Devon wasn’t going to let Seth know that. He was too young for that stuff. Not that she should really be talking since she’s getting him to drug Paul in another thread.

Seth was still pretty surprised that Paul didn’t have a problem with the random stripping not-in-their-pack shifter even after Devon’s explanation, but you’d think at this point he’d just know to accept the weird as normal and not question things. He always knew that Paul couldn’t hate everything and everyone. So maybe the people and things he liked were a little.. strange. It was better than nothing. Anyway, Seth was done thinking and talking about the stripping incident so.. lets move on! “I think if I can make friends with Paul, I can make friends with the rest of your pack. No offense to Paul or anything, I’m just assuming that he’s the most difficult of the whole group.” That was a pretty fair assumption to make considering that.. Paul was Paul. Paul was definitely one of the most unpredictable in the pack (well okay, he was unpredictable if you were optimistic and expected varied results. If you just assumed he was going to be mad all the time it was pretty easy to figure his out) but they were a bunch of very different and difficult to deal with people so that whole thing was kind of debatable. They all had their things.
”Well.. it depends what you mean by difficult.” Seth laughed, rubbing his neck and going into a very lengthy explanation about his pack mates. ”Paul’s just kind of hates everyone. I mean, he doesn’t hate you, which is pretty cool, but he basically hates everyone else. There’s no good reason for it. He just does. Leah’s a lot like Paul- but you can’t tell either of them that ever! She doesn’t hate everyone, but it’s really easy to make a bad impression on her and she never gets over anything. She’s my sister.” He made a face at the acknowledgement the two of them were related but didn’t stop talking. ”Anyway she’ll probably hate you just because Paul likes you but don’t feel bad because she’s no fun anyway. Sam.. can seem pretty bad, but he just takes forever to get used to people. Once he trusts you guys, he’s pretty fair about stuff. I mean- I don’t know how much he’ll like you in our territory, because he’s really serious about that but.. I dunno, we’ll figure it out. Embry’s kind of quiet – I don’t really know what he’ll think – Jake’s… preoccupied by some vampire girl, I bet he doesn’t even know you guys are here. I think Quill and Jarod will like you a lot and I like you so you definitely have the majority no matter what.. Not that we like.. vote on things.” It was pretty much whatever the most authoritative person present wanted and that was never Seth so he got pretty used to doing what the other guys wanted but it didn’t bother him because they were usually pretty cool.
As is pretty easy to see, it didn’t take much manipulation to get Seth to talk about his pack. Questions did the job just fine. Actually, Devon hadn’t even asked a question. But if she had, Seth would have answered whatever he thought honestly because he didn’t see the point of saying anything else. So now Devon knew a bunch of things she couldn’t tell his pack mates because at least three of them (okay, probably everyone but Jarod and Quill) would get all pissed off. No turning back now. Seth smiled back when she thanked him and agreed (well, maybe agreed but whatever) to go cliff diving with him and Paul sometime (beacause Seth could make plans for Paul Paul was obviously cool with that). ”No problem! You definitely should. It’ll be fun!” “That seems logical. Just gotta find a marker that shows up in the grass and dirt.” Yeah, that small problem.. ”You’d think they’d invent one of those. I mean.. they’ve got special markers for clothes. And there’s that kind they use on sports fields. That’s.. kind of grass. It’s fake grass.” A fake grass marker should write on real grass.. that would make sense. Then again, fake grass might have been made of paper and a fake grass marker could have just been a regular marker and Seth obviously had no idea what he was talking about but regardless, someone needed to find a way to draw a line around their space if they didn’t want people crossing over. ”You wanna come back to the house with me? I’m getting a little bored of this area.” ”Yeah, sure!” Obviously, the trees weren’t all that interesting and whatever they did at Devon’s house was going to beat it. Finding Devon’s house might be a bit of a challenge, but then again they knew it was in thee direction Devon had been coming from so they’d have to pass it eventually.

The girl couldn’t really understand or picture this group of people. Sam had to be the alpha the way Seth was describing him. Which means that Sam was the man to look out for and the man to unleash Keisha onto. That woman could talk him into lending over some territory. And if she was unsuccessful there was always Devon, the sassy, manipulative beta. Devon made a mental note to give Keisha a heads up about Sam. She carefully listened to the rest of the descriptions. The woman knew she would have to get to know her neighbors before she met them. Know exactly how each one would react. Know who to approach first. It seemed easy; she had Seth and Paul so far. And Seth had stated that this Jared and Quil would like her. So that would be four out of…eight? Worked for her. For now. “Okay so…avoid your sister, be caution with Sam, Embry is a mystery, Jared will like me, so will Quil, and don’t bother with Jake because he’s too busy with a leech. Did I get that right?” He did say a vampire girl. Devon didn’t know this girl. She assumed it was a girl who was a vampire. It never crossed her mind that a shifter would be stupid enough to get into a love triangle with a leech for a human. Then again she was also assuming that by preoccupied Seth meant something more malicious, than you know sex and love. In Devon’s mind vampires and shifters never mixed together, ever. They were both beasts but vampires were worse to her. Especially the yellow-eyed vampires. They were just liars to themselves and society. Stop trying to be human, you aren’t human. You are a monster, start acting like one.
Okay, Devon liked Seth and all. But the kid was not smart, he just started blabbing about his pack mates without Devon even asking about them. How did he know she wasn’t looking to kill them all? Devon was a stranger to him at this point. A friendly, weird, high-maintenance stranger. But a stranger no less. He should really take some lessons from that crazy Jacki. At least she knew not to trust a stranger right away. But hey, it would be Seth’s funeral if that was the case. Which it wasn’t, Ally is just trying to find something to ramble about to fill space. “We should invent a marker that writes on real grass. We could make a fortune!” Not like Devon didn’t have enough money coming her way. Between living off of Keisha and Pete’s jobs, and using only blackmailed contacts to give her money once a month, the girl should really be living in a bigger house than she was already in. Preferably her own house. But Dev couldn’t leave her two best friends; Keisha and Pete were the first people she learned to trust in a long time. She wasn’t planning on leaving their sides any time soon. Not to mention the two of them would probably starve without her. Devon grinned at Seth when he agreed to come to her house. She jerked her head to the side before going towards the way she came. It only took ten minutes but Devon managed to find her way back to the house. She quickly made her way through the backdoor, that she had left unlocked. Three shifters could handle themselves, they didn’t need to use locks. Silly inventions those things were. She walked through the kitchen and straight to the refrigerator. “Drink?” she asked Seth as she grabbed a water bottle.
