Devon couldn’t believe she was doing this. When she suggested it she meant it as a joke, it wasn’t like her pack was the “family dinner” type of people. Especially after all the new imprinting. Devon only knew half the things she knew because of that stupid wolf mind sharing. That’s what she called it at least. Having to share her thoughts with other people really annoyed her. Dev was so used to being alone that this whole pack thing was hard to get used to. But she was going to make it work because for the first time Devon actually felt like she had a dependable family. Though she would never say that out loud or think it when they could hear her. It would just come and bit her in the butt, so she put up a front. Even for her pack.
The female shifter sighed as double checked the two turkeys she decided to make. Cooking for her, Pete, and Keisha was one thing. Cooking for a whole pack and their guests was completely different. Devon had decided to make a mock thanksgiving dinner. She didn’t really think this whole thing through. Nope she figured with her ability to cook, it would be a simple meal. But once she calculated the people, their appetites, her own appetite…well thinks started to get a little more complicated. But she was up for the challenge whether she liked it or not. And lets face it Devon did a lot of things she did not like. Such as interact with potential annoyances. But it would be worth it…no actually it probably won’t be. The female shifter was going to hate herself for a long time after this meal.
She double checked the gravy before heading to the bathroom once last time to make sure her hair and makeup was still good. It was a wonder how the fifties TV wives managed to stay perfect and cook a meal. Then again it was a TV, they had their own people to keep them perfect. Devon was a one woman army. It was miracle she just didn’t cancel the whole damn thing every time her curls were out of place. But no this dinner was happening! Even if her hair was going to rebel against it. The female shifter left the bathroom after a couple minutes; she stopped in the living room making sure everything was perfect. Absolutely perfect. Nothing was out of place. This whole house looked ready for something this big. Then again, Devon wasn’t even sure the whole pack was going to show. And if they were even going to bring guests. She was their beta but still didn’t have as much control as their Alpha.
And their Alpha was kind of against this whole thing anyways. Keisha and Devon had a slight argument when Dev decided to turn it into a real thing. In the end Keisha had no say in the matter and now the beta was obligated to make such an event. Sighing, Dev made her way back to the kitchen. She had taken the liberty of unlocking the front and back doors so that everybody could just walk in. It would just be a pain to walk back and forth from the doors to the kitchen. Devon just hoped Keisha and Pete would be the first to arrive, this was their house. And they weren’t even home at the moment. Then again Tala could be the first to arrive, or Payuk. Or anyone of their guests. It was really a guessing game at this point. All Dev knew was that this evening was going to get very interesting!

The setting sun cast pink and orange hues across the choppy glass of the ocean surface. Dark, deep indigo was spreading like ink across the sky. It would have been a beautiful night. A little chilly maybe, but to a shifter, the weather was beautiful. There was no rain, not a lot of snow this year either. The sunset was picturesque, something straight out of an art gallery. In reality, had it been any other time than now, it would have been greatly enjoyed by the Alpha she-wolf. But as Keisha watched the sun set, inhaled a deep breath trying desperately to settle herself.
By the end of this night she was sure to have a heart attack. God knew she was old enough for one. Unfortunately she was too healthy for one too. Damn shifter genes. Either way, tonight was going to be an absolute nightmare. Devon had somehow gotten this great idea to have a massive dinner for the pack. Honestly, it would have been a great idea, except for Devon’s conditions of friends, family, and (in Keisha’s mind the worst of them all) imprints. Of course, though Devon honestly thought she was trying to help, Devon had insisted that everyone bring an imprint.
Keisha had refused, and bashed the entire dinner multiple times. There was no reason she wanted it to happen. She imprinted on a vampire after all! What was worse, Keisha had been on the phone with PJ one night, and nosey little Dev had to loudly ask if whoever was on the other end of the phone was coming to dinner. Keisha had honestly been planning on keeping it a secret, getting through the night quietly, and PJ never finding out. Of course though, the second this had happened, all bets on that were off. And of course, PJ was going to make an appearance tonight. In a house of shifters. Keisha rolled her icy grey-blue eyes. Dang, she imprinted on a winner.
Looking once more at the sky and trying to bury her nerves, Keisha took one last long breath and turned. The house was maybe minutes away, and the horror was about to start soon. The very least she could do was show up. Keisha was fearless in many ways, this didn’t happen to be one of them. This was honestly the scariest thing on the face of the planet for her right now. She was basically bringing home a Montague to a Capulet party. She was crazy. Totally irrevocably insane. That was, HAD to be, the only reason she was still going along with this, the only reason she hadn’t bailed on the entire idea yet. Walking through the forest she also realized how hard Devon had worked to make all this happen. The girl had diligence, Keisha had to admit at least that much.
Pushing some leaves of the forest aside, the Catori home loomed into view in the middle of a small clearing. It wasn’t anything fabulous to look at. As a matter of fact it was quiet the eyesore. The poor old house was falling apart at the seams. Unfortunately, the Catori’s and Dev hardly made enough to feed themselves let alone keep up a house. But they were trying. It was a wonder they even managed this feast for tonight. Pulling in a deep, steadying breath, Keisha walked forward toward the house slowly. She hadn’t gone out in her wolf form tonight, having sworn to Devon that she would look presentable for tonight. Though, as was usual, Keisha was still wearing very little, but none the less she still looked hot as ever. And surprisingly without Devon’s help. The younger female shifter always believed Keisha didn’t understand makeup, little did she know, once given the time and will to make an effort, and Keisha could make herself look amazing.
Keisha’s footsteps where heavy as she walked up the front porch, the heels of her shoes clicking lightly on the old wooden steps. She entered her home slowly, in almost a surreal kind of way. Almost as if she was dancing through a dream. She honestly felt like she was going to have a heart attack. Part of her sort of hoped she would just so that she didn’t have deal with this dinner. She walked into the living room, meeting Devon in there. The place she had to admit looked brilliant though. You never would have known that it belonged in a house that looked like it was falling apart on the outside. “It looks great Devon…” |
she murmured somewhat absent mindedly, trying very hard to keep her composure. There was only so long she was going to be able to last tonight. For right now though, she mentally shook herself and shoved her emotions into a little box in the back of her mind. At the same time, her eyes went stone cold, and emotionless. This night was going to be the farthest from interesting she was ever going to get, in fact, it very well could be the death of her. Literally. "Tala, put down the book! Come on; go get ready!" She swore, her brother was completely impossible sometimes (okay, most of the time). She'd had to convince him that it was okay to take a day off from his exciting life of competing for the most-boring-human-of-the-year award to do something much more interesting. Besides, she couldn't go by herself. (Okay, she probably could, and would anyway- but these people were his pack mates.) And why wouldn't he want to go? I mean, Thanksgiving in January. It was brilliant. Of course, Jacki was the type of person who would throw a birthday party for a bird just for the sake of having a big extravagant party, but she thought it was an awesome idea none the less.
Of course, if they were going to go they were going to do it right. She'd had to take him shopping, because there was absolutely nothing in his closet that was appropriate (or any color other than black, white, or blue), so she'd dragged him around the mall, bought him an obnoxious orange dress shirt, and now all he had to do was not screw up putting it on. She was already dressed and just finishing up grabbing things and running down the stairs. "Hurry up!" She grabbed his hand as soon as he was down the stairs and dragged him out the door before he had time to decide he had something else to do. And after about fifteen minutes of yelling at Tala for being the most paranoid driver ever and arguing that they'd get there twenty times faster if she was doing it, they arrived at the Catori residence.
Despite not being a shifter, Jacki basically spent as much time around them as they did each other, so she'd seen the house before, and didn't have any problems walking right through the open door. She knew everyone..and she was probably more social with them than her brother. She also knew exactly how much work Devon had gone through to make the place look like it did. And she could only imagine the food. (And respect taht she'd done it all without messing up her hair!) "Oh my god!" She grinned at the two women standing in the middle of the room. "Keisha, Devon, hi! Do you need any help? Tala can do it!"

He sat, reading a book on his bed, stalling as much as he could manage before Jacki ended up dragging him out of the house. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to go see people, but the dressing up part combined with the obligation to act like a civil human being toward Jacki just made the whole event sound very stressful. He didn’t get why she was so excited to go.. and why she insisted on making him wear anything other than anything his normal apparel consisted of. Tala, put down the book! Come on; go get ready! But it’s getting suspenseful! Being a shifter and all you’d think his expectations for excitement would be higher, but he didn’t think anything was much more fun than what he was currently doing and to stop that to go look like an idiot in front of his pack wasn’t an appealing idea.
He rolled his eyes, closing the book and getting out of bed sluggishly as he went to his closet and pulled out the most ridiculously obnoxious shirt he had ever owned in his life. The only reason he was agreeing to wear it was that Jacki could be pretty damn annoying when he didn’t accommodate her and he wasn’t in much of a mood to deal with that. Holding up the orange shirt, he grimaced as he slipped his arms into the sleeves, buttoning it up unevenly having left out a button on the bottom. Needless to say he wasn’t accustomed to wearing such formal attire. Hurry up! I’m coming—calm down! You’re crazy, JT, he muttered as he grabbed a jacket, glad to use it to cover his shirt.
He should have known driving was a bad idea because his insane sister didn’t get the concept of traffic lights or stop signs. They’d easily kill a pedestrian if she was at the wheel. Eventually, they did make it to Keisha’s house and it was clear that Devon had gone over the top to make the place look great. TJ walked in behind Jacki, giving Keisha and Devon a friendly nod before Jacki started talking---great. You know, he’d been hoping she could just.. not open her mouth. Keisha, Devon, hi! Do you need any help? Tala can do it! And so the obnoxiousness began. Keisha, Devon, hi. Too crowded in here? Jacki can leave. He took another look around before grinning at Devon and Keisha. It does look really good.

He’d been out in Forks almost all day long. Mainly getting stuff for the dinner tonight. Everyone was coming. And a large group of shifters in the house generally meant a whole hell of a lot food and munchies. That’s what he was doing. Gathering mass amounts of munchy things to keep the wolves at bay. Well. That’s and numerous other things. Just little extra stuff that Devon had wanted Pete to grab for the party. Extra plates and napkins mostly. God knew they were going to need ‘em. To be completely honest, Pete didn’t know how many people were coming tonight.
Well it was the pack, so that was at least 5 people right there. Then a couple extra people. Imprints included. Of course. Little did Devon know when she sent out that invitation. Pete shook his head and slowed his pace. Now his imprint coming over was just fine. Willow was a human. So no issues there. His sister however was another story entirely. Pete could only imagine what kind of issues his sister was having right now. The pack didn’t know she had even imprinted, let alone the fact that she had imprinted on a vampire. It was need to know basis information. And frankly, the entire pack didn’t need to know. At least that was what Keisha had thought originally.
But after leaving PJ all those years ago, Pete had to watch the sheer horror his sister endured every day. Some of the pack didn’t know why she acted the way she did. But he did. And it was rather terrible. Even so, through all that, they were back home. And as their twisted lives would have it, PJ had followed. Originally Keisha wasn’t going to invite PJ. At all. There would be way too many issues caused, questions asked and all the like. BUT of course, Dev had to go sticking her nose into things. She’d caught Keish on the phone with PJ one night, and Keish brushed it off as someone she worked with, but Devon continued and asked if the person on the other end of the phone was coming to the dinner. Pete had watched helplessly from the doorway, knowing well PJ would definitely make an appearance. Even though he didn’t eat.
Pete couldn’t help but groan. It was going to be a long night. And his sister was probably already about ready to tear her hair out. Plus side though, he was getting to see Willow. As he walked quickly down the street, he used his free hand to dig his cell phone out of his pocket. Clicking the lock button on the side, Pete unlocked the screen to check the time. Crap. He was already late. He would definitely be getting chewed out by Devon sometime tonight for that. Oh well. It wouldn’t have taken him that long had Devon’s list been shorter. So technically it was her fault for him being late to his own house party. Either way, he really needed to get back home. Soon.
Picking up his pace again and lengthening his stride, Pete continued down the road as the sun set behind the horizon. He had crossed onto the La Push lands a couple minutes ago. It would only take him about two more in order to get home. Either way he knew he needed to hurry. For one thing, he wanted to see Willow. It had only been a few days ago that she had walked in on him changing and he’d imprinted on her. Not exactly how he wanted that all to go, but you know, it happens. Pete had asked her on a date that very day, but he hadn’t been able to explain to her how imprinting worked. Not yet at least. He was hoping to do it tonight. Of course, with the people coming here that would be pretty damn near impossible to accomplish. On the other hand, if he didn’t get to her first tonight, there was no telling what could happen.
Finally, the house rose from the underbrush. The ancient thing was falling apart. But all the same it was home. Suddenly, he realized that the house was older then he was. Then Keisha was. No wonder. Unfortunately though they didn’t have the ability to pay for fixing it up. Though, he didn’t really want to fix it (he didn’t think Keisha did either, though she never voiced it). He hurried up the rickety front steps of the pouch and shoved the door open. He heard voices from the living room. Devon, Keisha, Jacki, and Tala. Though he didn’t go in there just yet. Nope. Instead he ducked into the kitchen, and set the bags carefully on the table.
The kitchen smelled great. Pete had to hand it to Devon. That girl could defiantly cook. Everything was going to be delicious tonight. Taking one final whiff, Pete turned and walked toward the living room. He stopped in the doorway, just catching the end of the exchange between his pack mate’s sister and his own. He nodded at Tala and muttered under his breath to him. “That has got to be a girl thing…” |
Smiling sneakily at his Alpha and Beta he shrugged. They were crazy sometimes. Add Jacki to that mix and things got relatively nuts relatively quick. “Hi everyone, sorry I’m late, by the way, I blame Dev!” he said and hid behind Tala for fear of Devon getting the idea to throw something at him. He smiled innocently at her from behind Tala and added, “Place looks awesome though, Dev, you did a great job!” He finally glanced at his sister. She defiantly looked in a bad way already, and Pete knew it was just going to get worse the longer the night went on. Especially when PJ showed up. Just as he thought it, he barely picked up the sound of footsteps coming up the front porch. [/div] my songs know what you did in the dark
