Jared decided to go cliff diving today, Kim was busy and told Jared to spend some time with his pack. It was hard for the two of them to be separate. Jared just wanted to spend every minute with the girl. But that’s what happened when one imprinted. They just wanted to be consumed with each other; at least that was what it was like for Jared. But of course they also had to act somewhat normal, and Jared knew he would have to deal with pack eventually. Especially with that red headed vampire running around, along with those Cullens just right next door. But they would have to hang out as buddies too. At least Jared wanted to have some fun. Couldn’t be serious all the time, despite what his pack thought.
The shifter was always looking for fun and for any opportunity for gambling. He had a serious problem when it came to bets and dares. Though he never really acknowledged said problem, nor did he really want to. In his mind, it was not a problem. It was who he was; nothing except maybe Kim would change that. So it really wasn’t a surprise when he wanted to go cliff diving during his free time. For one thing with such a problem like his, it normal came with the need to always have adrenaline rushing through you. And for another thing, there was truly nothing else to do around La Push. It did stink a little to be in such a small place when you wanted adventure and excitement as much as he wanted.
Of course it was a little bit of a surprise that he asked Paul, of all people, to do just activity with. Despite is volatile and angry personality, Paul was a decent guy…right? Jared as yet to see this side even though Rachel swears it’s there. He just thought the girl was blind with love or just pretended Paul was a completely different person. Both theories Jared was going to have to investigate. It would take some time and effort, which meant Jared would most likely not get around to it. Unless it gave him a rush of adrenaline, Jared really didn’t like putting effort into things. Jared sprinted through the forest, heading up to the cliffs.
The boy was in shorts and a thing shirt, there was little point in wearing layer of clothing around his pack mates. They had an abnormal amount of body heat, so clothes were somewhat of a hassle. Though Jared did have to keep up appearance in school and such. Truly, truly bothersome. Jared made it up to the cliffs to find them empty. Either Paul wasn’t going to show or he was late. Or Jared was really early. Though the last one was more unlikely than the other two. Sighing, Jared began taking his shoes off so he could feel the grass under his feet. It was an amazing feeling. Hopefully Paul would show up soon so Jared could have some fun. What was keeping the man anyways?

So Jared asked Paul to go cliff diving with him.. he sure didn’t see that one coming. Jared usually hung out with.. well Paul didn’t really pay him enough attention to know but it wasn’t him. He didn’t actually have any problems with the guy seeing as he was barely annoying and often very amusing in Paul’s opinion, so he agreed to go. It really wasn’t going to be that bad. He could get along with Jared. Maybe it’d even be fun—since Paul did like the cliffs. He just wasn’t looking forward to the one-on-one situation. He didn’t enjoy being alone with one person because then he was compelled to engage in conversation that he didn’t care about. At least in a group, he could sit back and observe the stupidity, judging everyone in his mind while making no contributions to the discussion. With Jared, he’d have to at least try not to get pissed off so they could like.. talk without fighting. It wasn’t that Paul planned on fighting.. but it tended to happen with him.
For that reason, he was procrastinating, spending time with the one exception to the no one-on-one rule. He’d been hanging out with Rachel for the day, only leaving her when he realized he had better get going before he really got the other guy annoyed. Being without her still annoyed Paul (which was like one third of his perpetual bad mood) but he could survive a day without her.. probably more easily than Jared could go without Kim. Kissing Rachel on the head before walking out the door, he began a very leisurely walk through the woods to the cliffs wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and bear feet. You’d never know he was late for something at the pace he was moving. He was making it last as long as possible. Having no idea how long he’d taken to walk there, he made it to the area in which his pack member was waiting. He pulled off his shirt and sat on the edge of the cliff with his legs crossed. Haven’t jumped in yet? What, afraid of a little cold water?
He wasn’t trying to be confrontational, that’s just how he was. Just because he wasn’t there to piss Jared off doesn’t mean he was going to lay off his innate sarcasm. Paul wondered why the guy hadn’t left.. or at least gone in already. He wondered if Jared had expected him to show up at all. Even with the curiosity, it was pretty awesome to be able to spend time with one of the guys without forcibly sharing all thoughts unwillingly. If he wanted to know something, he’d have to pry, and that was okay. In a genuine attempt to start conversation, Paul turned to Jared. How’s Kim? What he really meant more so was how he was doing away from Kim, but he’d work his way up to it if Jared didn’t get the hint.

Jared sighed loudly as he reached for the edge of his shirt and yanked the piece of clothing off of him. He was going to give the other one a couple more minutes before jumping in himself. Surprisingly Jared was a very patient person, at least compared to the rest of the pack. Even though he was usually the one to do stupid things and have a problem with gambling, the boy was pretty patient with people. Jared kicked a pebble off the cliff and glanced down at the water. It wasn’t bad or violent in any sense. There were few waves though, a few here and there. Nothing really dangerous. Nothing too harmful to him. Though that wouldn’t stop him, he would still jump off the cliff. That was the whole point to cliff diving, was the danger. The adrenaline that ran through his veins was miraculous. He loved that feeling, so if the water was a little more dangerous than normal it made the whole thing better. The one thing Jared loved to gamble with is his life. For some odd reason it was the one thing he would always gamble if it meant that the adrenaline came with it.
The voice of his fellow pack member interrupted his daze. He glanced behind him and saw Paul standing there. Jared didn’t exactly have a watch on him but his internal clock told him the other one was late. Really late. “Afraid? Me? Pshaw!” Jared scoffed before he let out a loud chuckle. “I was just waiting for you to start the fun.” He grinned at the other before glancing over the cliff once more. Yes, fun. That’s what he was planning on having today. Even if that meant maybe a possible fight with Paul, since the man was notorious for starting those. Despite his best efforts, Paul had a tendency to start physical violence. Something Jared kept in the back of his mind, though he wouldn’t stop him from being himself. The thoughts were just a small precaution he decided to take. A reminder that their day might actual turn into a brawl. Well if Paul managed to provoke Jared. He might be a gamble shifter, but the boy was pretty patient and tolerant of others.
Oh Kim. The most wonderful and beautiful creature on the planet. At least in Jared’s eyes this was true. He was amazing, and ultimately his one true love. Obviously. And obviously he was trying to hold himself together without her. But he wasn’t going to let Paul know that. “She’s good, out with her friends…most likely,” Jared stated, that’s probably what she was doing. “And Rachel, is she still under your spell?” Jared still could not believe someone like Paul would imprint on someone like Rachel Black. It wasn’t like they were horrible people, but the boy never thought they would end up as a couple. They seemed to be less compatible than Quil and Claire. Apparently fate liked to just mess around with things. Though the two seemed to work and were happy together. Having the ability to imprint was kind of weird and a little unsettling at times, when you really thought about it. But hey, Jared was happy with the one he ended up with.

The thing about Jared was that he could nail the whole ‘happy’ thing without being overly peppy (yes, this is a reference to Seth.. whose happiness was highly illogical). He wasn’t whiny, and he didn’t pick fights when they weren’t necessary and that made him a very tolerable person to be around—even for Paul. He was sarcastic, yes, but he could take it as much as he dealt it. If there was one thing that drove Paul crazy it was someone who couldn’t take a joke. Paul was late. Did he give a damn? Nope. But he sure’s hell didn’t want to listen to someone complain about it and was very satisfied when that was not Jared’s conversation starter. Had it been Jake, he’d be hearing about it. Then again, Jared had been the one to invite him so he really should have been expecting certain behaviors from Paul and if he had a problem with them, then well he set himself up for it. Afraid? Me? Pshaw! He got a chuckle out of Paul. Paul knew he wasn’t afraid. Of all people, Jared wasn’t one to chicken out when it came to stuff like diving. The guy was an adrenaline junkie. I was just waiting for you to start the fun. Paul scoffed sarcastically. Good thing you did. I’m an extremely fun individual. Hey, they were talking. It could have been worse.
He tossed some rocks over the edge of the cliff as Jared explained what Kim was up to. Paul couldn’t help but wonder if Jared would have preferred to be with her at the moment.. and what had led Jared to even ask Paul to do anything with him if Kim was an option. Paul didn’t see himself winning over Kim.. so either Jared had some weird urge to spend some time away from her or she was busy and he needed a charming and entertaining distraction. So which of you two made the plans first? Paul certainly wouldn’t have gone out of his way to hang out with a pack member unless Rachel was already busy.. but needless to say Jared wasn’t Paul. This was a conversation they could have, though. Paul got how Jared felt. He understood exactly what the guy was going through even if they handled it differently. And Rachel, is she still under your spell? Yea, yea, how could such a caring and intelligent and patient individual fall for someone like Paul? He’d heard it before. If by spell you mean wit and charm.. He raised an eyebrow at the guy. She’s still perfect as ever for the record. Just left her.. so I expect some perfection out of you. So he didn’t actually need Jared to be a replacement Rachel but the guy had to make this little get-together worth Paul’s time or it wouldn’t be happening agiain.

What? A chuckle? Jared just got a chuckle from Paul. Well that’s extremely weird. Especially for the other pack members. Surely Rachel was capable of getting him to laugh but Jared didn’t know of anybody in the pack that had that ability. Jared laughed at Paul’s response. “Okay, let’s not get a head of ourselves now. I have yet to see the great Paul Lahote actually have fun,” Jared stated in a complete joking manner. It was true though. It was very rare to see Paul in a good mood, let alone having fun. Usually he was all obnoxiously grumpy and hating the world. And all that negative stuff. Jared didn’t understand why. Being a shifter was awesome! You get to turn into a wolf at any moment, nobody normal could do that. They had heightened sense and strength. Seriously. Who wouldn’t revel in this? This was a beautiful calling, nature, whatever you wanted to call it at this point.
“She did, obviously. No offense dude, but if Kim was free I wouldn’t be here.” Jared wasn’t going to lie and pretend to have any manhood left in this situation. Kim had Jared wrapped around her little finger. That’s why he was out here today. She wanted some time with her friends and wanted Jared to spend some time with the pack. Though Jared would love to be with Kim over these boys. And surely Paul, of all people, would understand this feeling. The two of them had imprinted and such, so they pretty much shared the same experience. Although Kim was able to take the situation with no problem, Jared didn’t really get the whole story of Paul and Rachel. But, like stated earlier, Jared wasn’t going to deny that Kim had him by the balls. That’s what happened when you imprinted on someone. They became your world. You wanted to be everything to them and do everything for them. Why deny that?
Wit and charm? Paul had wit and charm? Jared let out a laugh. “Don’t put too much pressure on me now,” Jared stated jokingly. “I mean it won’t be too hard for me to be perfect but still...” Jared was extremely obnoxious. And extremely full of himself. Honestly, Kim was a saint to put up with him. But it seemed like the whole pack was like that. Really they were all obnoxious in their own ways. It was shocking that they haven’t killed each other yet. Or even the fact that Sam hasn’t tried to kill them yet. Though maybe he’s hoping an accident will happen while they are cliff diving. Which is probably why he introduced the activity to them in the first place. Yes, that is it. It has nothing to do with the fact that it’s fun and entertaining. Nope, it was part of Sam’s grand scheme to get rid of his pack members one by one. Well the obnoxious ones at least. Because let’s be realistic here the only shifters that actually went cliff diving on a daily basis were the obnoxious ones. Yup, Sam was out to get them all. Oh god, he was starting to sound as crazy as Seth

Paul didn’t have fun? HA. Jared didn’t know what the hell he was talking about. Paul liked his humor, though. Okay, let’s not get ahead of ourselves now. I have yet to see the great Paul Lahote actually have fun. Paul rolled his eyes, though it was in good humor. It wasn’t his fault that no one saw him having fun. If people were around to see him doing anything, they were usually the cause of his aggravation. That’s because my having fun generally doesn’t allow for people to be around to watch. Not that he had a really big problem with Jared—he was one of the most tolerable out of the whole pack. But Paul didn’t invite people to go have fun with him. He did it on his own, with no witnesses.
She did, obviously. No offense dude, but if Kim was free I wouldn’t be here. Well, the guy was honest. Paul nodded. Yea, I figured. But just because this wasn’t the first activity on their list of fun things to do didn’t mean they had to hate it. It was probably like third on Paul’s list, behind being alone and being with Rachel. Well, you can sit there and sulk like a baby or you can get over it and come in with me, he said ever-so-considerately cannonballing it over the ledge. It felt kind of awesome and he hadn’t done it in a while. Once he resurfaced, he climbed onto the rocks on the side of the cliff and laid with his hands behind his head waiting for Jared.
Once Jared made it to the bottom, assuming he’d not died or chickened out, Paul continued the conversation they’d been having in which Jared implied he was perfect while also implying that Rachel shouldn’t have been attracted to Paul in any way. Okay, that was kind of exaggerating a tiny bit but yea. Mhm, you’re perfect. He rolled his eyes, a small grin on his face. You’re so perfect that Kim isn’t under any “spell” of yours, he said with light sarcasm. He knew Jared could take it. That’s why he could hang out with Jared. Jared could take it. Not many could (though Seth was starting to be able to deal with Paul’s snark—the little shit). Jared deserved an award.

Jared actually thought the guy was pretty cool, when he wasn’t being a hothead. Or making threats that were pretty much empty because Sam would never allow Paul to do most of the things he spouted out in the heat of the moment. But he was glad Paul wasn’t acting like that way right now. Of course Jared could always say something stupid and the whole day could go to hell. Honestly, even when Paul was being a stupid person, Jared still found him entertaining. And since it was just the two of them, they could just fight out any argument that occurs and be done with it. Jared preferred doing it that way than harboring a grudge and getting back at each other through other people. You know like girls usually did. Jared never understood had Kim could stand all that nonsense. In Jared’s and Ally’s mind if you were mad at someone you would tell that person, not everybody except that person.
Jared once again laughed at Paul’s statement. “I don’t sulk, that’s your thing!” Jared called after Paul but he figured that he was already in the water that he didn’t hear him. Chuckling at him, Jared quickly followed his pack mate seconds later. The fall to the water was freaking awesome! Jared loved the rush of cliff diving. He was an adrenaline junkie after all. Jared lived for adrenaline. Honestly if he did have a pack to worry about he would probably head to Hollywood after high school. And become a professional stunt double. He could technically still do that, if Kim and Sam were okay with that. Obviously Jared wouldn’t move anywhere Kim wasn’t and well Sam had that whole authority bond thing over the pack. He broke through the water and quickly climbed onto the rocks that Paul was on. “Woo!” Jared exclaimed in a deep manly voice. The one that most guys use when cheering after their team scores a point in pretty much any sport. Except golf. Golf was different…strangely different.
“Obviously! My charm was enough to make her fall for me,” Jared stated in a completely joking manner. Jared was glad to have someone like Paul in their pack. Someone sarcastic enough to have a back and forth conversation like this. Both Jared and Paul could take the jabs at each other, physically and verbally. It’s probably why Jared was one of the very few people Paul tolerated. At least it seemed that way. Of course Jared’s “canon best friend” was Embry, that was a bit up for debate at the moment. While Embry was the gambler and could keep up with Jared’s need for adventure, he didn’t have the ability to have back and forth conversations. But the guy was still cool enough to hang out with. Actually Jared pretty much thought everybody was cool to hang out with. It was the time and degree of fun that varied.
