It wasn’t a very windy day out so Willow decided to study at the beach. Maybe she would have a longer attention span there. There was some doubt in this theory but it was worth a try. Willow grabbed her chemistry textbook, notebook, and ipod before jetting out of the house. It took a matter of minutes before she reached the beach. It was nice to not be surrounded by four walls and no sign of water around you. She found a nice log relatively close to the shoreline. Using some strength she readjusted the log close it was set up the way she wanted it to be. Willow was a particular type of girl. Her study area had to be a certain way to limit the amount of distractions. Though that still didn’t stop her from getting distracted from boring school work.
Will sat upon a log and moved around until she wasn’t comfortable. Quickly, she undid her headphones and turned the volume all the way up. One of these days she was going to go deaf, but it didn’t matter to her. Not anymore. She would rather go deaf listening to her favorite songs than listening to her teachers rant about ions and the periodic table. Will opened her textbook and notebook up as she stared intently at the page. Three songs later and Willow was staring at the same page. Oh my lord, this was just not happening. Chemistry needs to die just like the Latin language did. It was a useless subject and had nothing to do with her or her psych major. Sigh. Her eyes glanced up to look at the still ocean.
It was so peaceful and calm. Beautiful. What she wouldn’t give to just go swimming? But it was too cold out. Kind of stinks living this far north. The weather was crap for the majority of the year. Water felt nice against her smooth skin. It was an interesting feeling, being submerged underwater. Too feel your hair flow around you. To feel like you were just floating. Of course the not being able to breath was always bothersome. If she could breathe under water then her life would be complete. She would never leave. Well she would have to leave to go to the bathroom. And eat. And see her brothers. Okay so maybe her life wouldn’t be complete, but it would still be pretty damn awesome.
Willow was so lost in thought that she barely paid attention to the wind around her. It wasn’t until it picked up tremendously. Will closed her chemistry book and was about to put her notebook in her bag but it flew out of her hands. Will tried to catch it, but failed with her poor human reflex. “Ah, crap!” Willow yelled as she jumped to her feet and chased the notebook. Well this wasn’t what she expected.

Finally. Freedom. Jacki didn't know what it was about the last ten minutes of class, but it always went at least twenty times slower than the rest of the of the day.. and she didn't really care how completely "illogical" it sounded-- it was true. Time was an invented concept. It had the potential to have been screwed up. (And everyone for the last how-ever-many-years-it-had-been was just completely in denial.) But either way, the point was, the day couldn't have ended any sooner. Jacki very happily sprung up from her seat the second the bell rang (okay, so she was out of her seat long before the bell rang but-- besides the point There's no point Ally, you know this) and now she was on her way to make good use of the daylight that was left.
Of course, "good use" was a relative term. Tala's definition of good use was doing homework that was due in like a month. Devon's definition of good use was something that involved clothing stores and mirrors. Jacki's definition of good use... usually involved cartwheels and ventriloquist dolls.. so, going to the beach was actually a pretty compromising gesture. (Tala had the car. Her options were limited.) But she loved the beach! Who didn't? The weather was pretty nice today... you know, for Washington. There was some sun.. sometimes..for a few minutes-- okay, so, it wasn't raining. Even she wasn't dumb enough to go put shorts and jump into the ocean twice this time of year, but it was a great day and she definitely wanted to spend some time outside.
..Apparently the majority of La Push didn't agree with her. When she got to the beach it was all but deserted. There were a few people here and there but that was about it. Nothing fun. Echo..echo..echo.. Well, at least she could play music and sing along and not get stared at. Or, you know, maybe she'd give the water a try after all. Venturing closer, she stood along where the edge of the wet sand was, weighing her options.. It would piss of Tala.. but it would be cold.. but Tala would explode.. eh, she could steal his blankets. She would have ran in, but an exclamation of 'Oh crap' (the call to adventure in this hero's epic tale-- this is what happened when she went to English class, she started narrating life) broke her out of her thoughts.
Jacki turned around and caught sight of the flying notebook and Willow (how she'd missed her before she had no idea) running after it. "I got it!" Having the advantage of being on the other side, she ran and intercepted the devious paper on it's attempt at escape (very stylishly, if I might add, because, why grab something when you can jump and grab it and make the whole thing look much cooler-- Pft, and they said gymnastics wasn't going to be useful in life). Opening it up (very tactful, always tactful, especially with other people's things) she made a face. "What language is-- oh, it's science." Why was she doing science at the beach? Why was she doing science at all? She didn't understand these 'further education' people- they were silly. She met up with Willow and handed her back the book. "Hey Will, I'm pretty sure no matter how fast you make your notebook fly, the questions still wont answer themselves."

Yes it was nearly useless to chase after the flying notebook. The only way Willow was going to catch it would be if the unhelpful and untimely breeze ceased. Of course that’s not how the weather gods liked to be. They liked to be unhelpful and untimely. Like when a person prayed to them to give them a nice wholesome blizzard that would ultimately give them a day off of school and work. Or an epic size rainy day, companied with thunder and lightning. That’s all the human population was asking for every now and then. But no, weekdays were clear and sunny. And weekends were rainy and miserable. What do the humans ever do to the weather gods? They didn’t harm them in anyway. Just asked for a couple of days off from reality.
The voice of another female caught her attention as she paused from her never ending goal of trying to grab the notebook. She glanced up and smiled as she watched Jacki grab the demon thing with such style. Will was excited to see Jacki. It would mean a distraction from her convincing herself to do chemistry. How people did their homework willing and on a daily basis, was beyond her comprehension. Why would humans willing subject themselves to such torture? And why would teacher subject their students to such torture? Homework was truly inhumane. “Hey Jacki, thanks!” huffed Will as she caught up to the other human. Yes, human. Willow knew of no other beings out in the world. Though she sometimes wondered what it would be like if vampires and werewolves were real. What it would be like to be related to one of those beings.
“It was worth a shot,” Will smiled at the other girl. “Honestly I think it was trying to escape the horrific memories of being written on. I mean I would feel awful if someone wrote science-y things on me with a pen.” Yes, that’s why the notebook ran away. Not because of the wind and all those physic theories that are too complex to rant about. After all nobody would like science stuff scrawled on them. Unless of course they were part of the science club and science was their life. You know, all that jazz. Willow could never imagine going into a major that involves such things. Science was boring and complicated. She preferred history…no too boring. Math? Nope, worse than science. Languages. Languages was cool but took too much attention to learn. Music. That was what Willow wanted to major in. It was simple and easy, at least to her it was.

Jacki knew that eventually something exciting was going to happen today. Okay, so, maybe flying notebooks didn't exactly classify as 'exciting', but, you had to work with what you'd been dealt with, and Jacki was going to treat the flying notebook like it was a dragon that swooped in and was threatening the safety of the whole reservation.. Yeah, she really probably needed to lay off the fairy tale expectations but her life was kind of like one of those supernatural novels. What with the shape-shifting relatives and all. Kind of made it hard to stay in reality sometimes. Though in Tala defense, reality is a place that Jacki never had and never would take residency in. But reality was boring! Her world was fun! And right now, her world involved chasing after Willow's notebook.
She laughed when Willow caught up with her. "No problem!" It was seriously nice having some human friends. I mean, not that Jacki had anything against shifters.. other than maybe the fact that they never let her go cliff diving with them. That was just incredibly rude. Blah blah they have super healing abilities and she doesn't her ass. She should have been invited. But yeah, otherwise, they were cool and all, and it was definitely cool that she knew more about than than most humans... But humans, that's where it was at. People like her and Willow, they didn't need supernatural stories to make their lives interesting. They could do it all by themselves.
"Oh poor notebook!" Jacki gave it a mock cuddle, patting the cover and holding it protectively. "You don't really want to torture it more, do you? Because that's... paper-cruelty! And it's punishable by law..um..in China!" She knew Willow had probably come to the beach so she could work, but Jacki had faith that with enough perseverance she could convince her to give up on that for something more exciting. After all, Willow was a human.. unlike her brother. Oh, no, she wasn't talking about the shifter thing this time. Tala was an alien. Like...from Neptune or something. That's why no matter how hard she tried, he still thought work was more entertaining than her. "So, to avoid you getting arrested by the Chinese government who's currently watching us though a camera hidden on a bug in that log over there..." she put on her best 'please, pretty please, pretty pretty please which whipped cream and a cherry on top' look "wanna go do something more fun?"

“It is?!” Willow exclaimed with mock surprise. Actually it probably was, knowing the Chinese government and all. They had some pretty crazy things happen over there with that small dictator and all. And the fact that the country was split in two. Or wait..that was Korea. Wow, you would never think Willow actually got into college. To be honest she didn’t pay attention to government things. They were all corrupt people in her head. Honestly, she had a theory about them all being abducted by aliens one and night replaced with other aliens. And eventually those aliens were going to take over the world. And they would kill all the boring humans and experiment on the cool ones. Like Jacki and her. God, Willow never realized being cool would have consequences. She would have to fulfill her life goals before those aliens did experiments on her.
“How did they put a bug in the log?” Willow asked, “It was aliens.” Yea, Jacki wasn’t a mind reader so she probably had no idea where that came from. But that’s what happens when you were really good friends with Willow. She went on mental rants and then said something out loud, completely forgetting that nobody heard her mental rant. But Jacki was cool enough to play along with it. Willow wouldn’t be friends with her if she wasn’t, obviously. “Okay!” Willow grinned at her. The girl did not need a lot of convincing to not do homework and go on adventures. Of course it was a matter of coming up with something fun that was the problem. There were just so many things that they could do. Especially with the technology that they have at their fingertips. “We should….” The human glanced around the beach. Well the water was a bit too cold for even Willow’s adventurous nature.
“Let’s go bother Tala!” It was like a light bulb went off in her heard. She never met the mysterious boy before. But she’s heard a lot about him from Jacki. It was a natural sibling thing to do to complain about each other. Willow did it on a normal basis about her two brothers. So obviously Jacki would complain about Tala. So Willow knew plenty about the boy, at least Jacki’s version of him. Which seems like a very valid version. Willow had no problems about it. The human girl gasped excitedly and lightly hit her friend’s shoulder. “We should make a dating site for him!” From what she gathered the boy was single and that wasn’t going to change any time soon. At least that’s what Will was assuming. And the two always talked about doing it. Here was their perfect opportunity! And then if it went well they could start their own dating site. Where Willow will put her brothers on. Because let’s face they needed to go on a date, or at least get laid.

“It is?!” Jacki laughed at Willow's reaction. Willow was one of the few people (actually, she was the only one) who would go along with Jacki's crazy plans and stories without any question. She knew Willow knew that she was making up everything as she went along. She was just cool enough to do it too! And thus- it was now perfectly logical and explainable why Willow would not being doing her homework- because she was a considerate and culturally diverse individual. Jacki pretended to be giving the subject some serious thought when Willow asked how they managed it, but her friend draw her own conclusion, and it was as good as anything Jacki would have made up herself. "It was aliens." She nodded solemnly. "It's always aliens... Unless its leprechauns."
Leprechauns, aliens, unicorns- why study stupid things like science when all it did was suck the fun out of everything. Not that Jacki really believed in these things; she was just open to the possibility, and willing to think the best of them because someone had to. When it came to Willow and Jacki the problem was never deciding to have fun- it was deciding between the millions of fun activities in the world which would better suit their needs and interests at the given moment. And at this moment, the beach had already offered all the excitement it saved up for the day.
“Let’s go bother Tala!” And this, THIS ladies and gentlemen, is why Willow was Jacki's best friend. Because Willow understood that Tala was really an alien from outer space, and without even meeting him, she knew that bothering him would make for an exciting afternoon. Of course, the fact that she'd come over a ton of times and Tala had never even said hello helped Jacki's case. But she was confident that if Willow met her brother her opinion wouldn't change at all. "Great idea!" “We should make a dating site for him!” "Oh my god, you are a genius." Jacki wasn't sure if she'd ever mentioned that Tala was single to her friend but.. it wasn't like it took a rocket scientist to figure it out.
"I've been trying to set him up forever- it's hopeless." Now she was in scheming mode. Fast talking, gesturing, and all that jazz. "Come on!" With a wave of her hand she gestured for Willow to follow her as she ran off. Luckily, La Push was a ridiculously small area and getting to her house didn't take very long at all. Then again, Jacki was one of those people who found running fun, and knew a ton of shortcuts that involved having to climb fences and jump over things and occasionally ignore 'do not enter' signs. So I guess it was subjective. Anyway, they got back to her house and she ran to her room and turned on the computer.
She moved it so that it was between her and Willow and went to eHarmony.com, clicking the register button and filling in all the general information like name and age but then the questions got harder and Jacki realized she had no idea what any of the answers were. She was pretty sure even Tala wouldn't be able to answer most of these things for himself. (He didn't live in the real world. In Homework Land these questions were entirely irrelevant.) Still, if anyone could help them, it was him. She shut the laptop and looked around her room. "Oh! I think i just found a good use for that poor abused notebook of yours!" Grinning, she skipped across the hallway and knocked on her brother's door. "Ready to become world class interviewers?" she whispered, before raising her voice to a very obnoxiously loud tone. "Taaaalaaaaaa, Willow's going to be a psychologist and for her homework she needs to interview someone who isn't completely amazing in every way so can we ask you questions?"

“Leprechauns! Aye! Maybe they have a pot o’ gold!” Willow stated with a slight Irish accent. The girl had many talents, doing impressions was one of them. Will still had her southern, Texan accent. After all she lived in Texas up until two years or so ago. But she was also great at all the other accents in the world as well. It was part of her jokester nature. She perfected a lot of accents and impressions that would get laughs. Though sometimes she slips into a random accent during a normal conversation. For instance, during a conversation about what to eat with her brother she went from southern to Russian. Without much thought or purpose. She was just a ball of surprises.
Willow let out a laugh at her best friend’s response. Obviously she would think it was a great idea, because Willow never knew a time when Jacki didn’t bother Tala. Okay so maybe when the two of them were hanging she wasn’t really bothering her brother. But she did complain about him almost all the time. Willow knew her best friend well enough to know that she could never get bored making her brother’s life more difficult. “Ha! I have my moments,” Willow stated with a grin. Yes she was assuming that the boy was single. But even if he was taken, Willow and Jacki would still put a dating ad up for him. Just because they could. It was that simple with them.
“Well hopefully the internet will change that!” cheered Will as she ran after her friend. The girl liked running, so she really didn’t mind having to run to her friend’s house just now. Honestly she was more or less disappointed at the fact that La Push was so small and she didn’t have to do much running at all. Really. It took a few minutes to get to the Whites’ residence. So Will’s adrenaline was slightly deflated from the small fact that she wanted to keep running. The woman was a very active person so obviously she just wanted to keep going. She had great stamina…which was good for certain things.
house, they immediately ran up to the girl’s room. Willow had been at the house enough times to know where it was without her friend’s help. She adjusted herself comfortably so Jacki could share the laptop with her. There was no point in only having one person look at the screen. Even if that one person knew more about the Tala, than the other. This was a team effort and they were a team! That’s why any time Willow did something stupid she invited Jacki and she would like to think Jacki thought of her when she wanted to do something fun. Or stupid, as her one brother would call. After all the easy questions were out of the way, the girls were stuck. Willow pursed her lips together as Jacki closed her laptop. “Oh good!!” Willow exclaimed as she grabbed her abused notebook and followed Jacki into the hallway.
Willow had been at the house long enough to know that the one room with a closed was where Tala was. And that room was generally his room. This wouldn’t be the first time Will has seen Tala, but this was probably the first time they were going to actually interact. Which was odd since the girls were best friends, one would think Willow would have at least talked to Tala. The older girl winked at her friend and grinned as the younger girl began calling for her brother. “It would really be helpful in furthering my education!” Willow called when Jacki finished her announcement. That was pure brilliance on her best friend’s part. Tala seemed like a guy that was more inclined to interact with them if it had something to do with homework.

Jacki and her eccentric mind was more than enough to handle without her friend being around who happened to be just as eccentric as she was. Sometimes…most of the time Jacki made Tala want to stab his eyes with a fork and Willow and Jacki combined made him want to do it with excessive force. There Tala was, enjoying himself with his nose in a book trying to ignore the noise going on down the hall when he was ever-so-rudely interrupted. In Jacki’s defense, Tala was pretty surprised that she knocked on the door and didn’t try to break in but he wasn’t going to praise her out loud because she didn’t need that kind of encouragement. Taaaalaaaaaa, Willow’s going to be a psychologist and for her homework she needs to interview someone who isn’t completely amazing in every way so can we ask you questions? He closed his book and rolled his eyes. Because telling me that I’m less than amazing is a great way to get what you want.
It would really be helpful in furthering my education! He rolled his eyes again and sat up on his bed. He thought about it for a moment and decided that as much as he didn’t want to do this, she was doing it for a class and he couldn’t discourage the fact that she was actually doing schoolwork. He got up and opened his door, surprisingly seeing Willow more than he had in a while. He preferred it that way though—Jacki tended to stay away from Tala when she had more exciting people over. You’re lucky I value your education more than you do. Yeaa it was his own fault for hearing that it was for psychology and not questioning it but it was more Willow and Jacki’s fault for being evil. Tala went back into his room from the doorway and sat at his desk facing his chair out. These questions better be legitimate.

Willow had been on a good ideas roll. First bothering Tala, and then the dating site. And the only thing that made it better was that now they got to do both at the same time. Of course, Jacki knew her brother amazingly well, and she knew that the way to his bedroom was through the promises of something educational. For some reason, Tala really believed all that garbage about school being important enough to get you somewhere in the world. Consequently, he had no life. And THAT was why he needed a relationship and Jacki and Willow didn't. (Even though Willow would get one later and Jacki would be obnoxious about it any ANYWAY.) Now that I've sufficiently rambled about nothing, Tala, after a bit of being sarcastic and shouting throught eh walls, opened up the door and let them inside.
'You’re lucky I value your education more than you do.' "You're right, thanks bro." Yeah, so maybe Jacki always pulled the 'nice sibling' card to get what she wanted, but what could she say- it worked! "Tala, this is Willow! Willow, meet the resident troll!" She grinned at her brother. "Don't give me that look- I wouldn't need to call you that if you actually left your room every once in a while. Anyway, she knows we're related. Or, at least that we're apparently related. Because I'M not even completely sure." Okay, so Jacki was PRETTY sure that the two of them were actual siblings, but it would have been a lot easier to tell if they weren't so polar opposite in every way. Uncool as Tala was though, Jacki still loved him. Of course, that was probably just because if she hated him then she'd never bother him and he'd probably like her a lot more. But still.
'These questions better be legitimate.' "They are, completely serious, I pinky promise." Technically, she was telling the truth here. They were legitimate questions, with a question mark and all, and they were created by people who weren't Willow and Jacki. "Willow needs to write a report about relationships and.. something in the brain. Big words, I don't really know what. I'll let her explain it. We both think its stupid but, you know, its a big part of her grade so she needs to get it done." Had they been trying to pass this off as Jacki's assignment, Tala never would have bought it. But since he didn't know Willow well, it was safe to assume he'd peg her as slightly more responsible. (I mean, being more irresponsible than Jacki took a lot of effort.) Anyway, Jacki hadn't really thought through what they were going to tell him the assignment was, but she had faith in Willows ability to bullshit something that sounded smart. She'd handle the other part. "So, hypothetically, assuming you were actually capable of getting a girlfriend, what are five things would you look for?"

I value my education!” Willow exclaimed with fake offense. “I just value my street education more than book education. Studies have shown that street smarts actually further someone’s success more than book smarts. After all 95 percent of the jobs nowadays deals with people. And you need to learn how to deal with people more than books to succeed in such jobs.” Okay so clearly Willow has read some sorts of textbooks in her life time. She was good with psychology and subjects like it. Especially psychology of the personality and the humanistic theories because it required less involvement in science and math. It was more common sense and reading people. Things Willow was extremely good at. “It’s nice to officially meet you though.” Will smirked at him, proud at herself. She was glad she paid attention to some of her class. While people who were street smart often excelled more than book smart people, they still needed some book smart. Generally people needed a good balance of both, but that wasn’t a point Willow was going to bring up.
Will had to suppress the urge to slap Jacki for putting her in charge of the explanation. While Willow was good at bull shitting, this was her idea and so far she was doing all the work. Well as long as Jacki asked the questions, then fine, Willow will make up some stupid explanation. “I just need to research what attracts people and what people find attractive. It’s for a statistic report for certain qualities. And I kind of need an out liar, to make the project seem relatively real versus me making things up. Unless you qualify for the qualities I’m studying, then maybe you can further help me by finding someone that can be an out liar.” Willow thought she was pretty damn good at this. Maybe she should become a lawyer instead of a psychologist. Will was pretty good at bending rules and pretty knowledge about certain laws. And she was good at twisting things to her will, also at lying. Clearly. To be honest this would make for a great report. If Willow cared that much about it. But she was just doing it for the sake of the real plan. Getting Tala an eHarmony ad.
Willow walked around the neatly organized room and quickly sat down on the bed. She was used to making herself at home at this house. At least in the rooms Jacki and her hung out in. Like the kitchen, living room, and Jacki’s bedroom. She had never been in Tala’s room, but since she was Jacki’s best friend…she saw zero problems in making herself feel at home. She sat Indian style on the bed and waited for Jacki to start the questioning. If Tala questioned why Willow wasn’t asking the questions, she would just bullshit something about studying his body language. And determine whether he was lying to seem socially acceptable or if he was actually being truthful about his answers. She had the theory to back that up to. It was a psychology term and while she was at a loss for what the term actually was. She knew how to define it and that’s all that mattered. Yup, Willow should totally become a lawyer. She would be a damn good one and could totally defend Jacki against all the laws she was bound to break when she got older. Plus she wouldn’t charge Jacki for anything except food. And clearly the two of them were good enough to win every case.
